    Pentax Optio M60

    January 12th, 2009
    Pentax Optio M60

The Pentax Optio M60 is a stylish digital camera with enhanced functions to support a wide variety of shooting scenarios. This lightweight 10 megapixel compact camera is equipped with advanced, easy-to-operate functions.

The ultra-slim M60 sells only for just £100 and for this price you get excellent build quality, great handling, a wonderfully easy-to-use interface and some fun features. Being a cheap snapshot camera, it performs as such: under good lighting it can take a perfectly acceptable photo most of the time.

But the major weak point is the lens quality. It has areas of significant chromatic aberration over large areas of the image, and very bad corner blurring, especially at wide angle. In other respects it not that bad – images are usable up to ISO1600, but it’s better not to ask too much and stop at ISO200. Then you’ll enjoy nice images with good colour reproduction.

    Major Features:

    1. Advanced Auto Picture mode that lets the camera automatically select the optimal scene mode - from a total of 8 scenes - when pointed at the subject.

    2. High-speed Face Recognition function takes only 0.03 seconds to detected at once as many as 32 faces. Smile Capture and Blinking Detection functions are also included.

    4. Apart from its optical 5X zoom lens the Optio M60 also features an Intelligent Zoom function that extends the zoom range without compromising the optical zoom’s image quality – up to 28.5X.

    5. High sensitivity Digital SR (shake reduction) mode that reduces camera shake and subject blurring by moving to a higher ISO level to permit the faster shutter speed.

    6. Digital Wide mode that merges two shots into one image in the camera, for ultra wide-angle expressions equivalent to a focal length of approximately 28mm in 35mm format

    7. Frame composite function allows photographers to shoot and create images with decorative frames; there are 80 built-in styles to choose from

The Pentax Optio M60 - Specifications:

    • Sensor Size: 1/2.3″
    • 10 MP Resolution
    • Digital stabilization only
    • Lens 5x zoom
    • Focal Length Equivalent: 36-180mm
    • Aperture Range: F3.5(W)/4.4(T) – F8
    • Manual focus
    • 24 Scene modes
    • Metering: Multi-segment metering, Center Weighted, Spot
    • Sensitivity: Auto, 64 - 6400
    • Shutter speed: 4 - 1/2000 sec
    • High speed continuous shooting: 2.5 fps up to5 images
    • 2.5″ LCD monitor
    • No Viewfinder

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-G3 - Wi-Fi Digital Camera with Web Browser

    January 11th, 2009
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-G3 - Wi-Fi Digital Camera with Web Browser

What’s new: Digitalcamerareview has reviewed the camera!

With its new Cyber-shot DSC-G3 Sony focuses on making photo sharing easier and more convenient.

The new Sony DSC-G3 has built-in Wi-Fi and can use any public hotspot including hotels, restaurants, coffee shops and airports (AT&T Wi-Fi is free for 3 years). Easy Upload Homepage allows you to send photos to Shutterfly, Picasa, YouTube, DailyMotion, and PhotoBucket with ease. The camera’s Web browser allows you to connect to hotspots that require you to log in, and also lets you view photos you’ve already uploaded.

In addition to its wireless sharing capabilities, the new camera is built for high-performance imaging. The Intelligent Scene Recognition automatically identifies eight types of scenes — backlight, backlight portrait, twilight, twilight portrait, twilight using a tripod, portrait, landscape and macro — and automatically optimizes camera settings for each shooting situation.

The camera’s Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) determines the best exposure and contrast settings in almost any shooting environment giving images a natural look with clearer details and Double Anti-blur feature helps reduce camera shake blur, especially when there is low light.

One more advantage of  the DSC-G3 is its slim design. Measuring just 3/4-inch (19.4mm), this digital camera is slim enough to slip into a pocket, so you can take it with you wherever you go.

    Digitalcamerareview.com:
As a digital camera, the G3 offers good performance and image quality and a solid point-and-shoot feature set. But if you’re not going to make use of the WiFi/browser or the huge internal memory, you’ll find better value elsewhere.

    Sony Cyber-shot DSC-G3 - Specifications:

    • Ultra-compact 3/4-inch body
    • 10.1 Megapixel CCD
    • 4X Optical Zoom
    • Aperture Range: F3.5-4.6
    • Optical Шmage Stabilization
    • 3.5″ touch screen LCD with 921,600 pixels
    • Built-in Wi-Fi
    • Intelligent Scene Recognition
    • Face Detection
    • Smile Detection (+adult or child priority setting)
    • Blink Detection
    • Dynamic Range Optimizer
    • Built-in 4GB photo album holds up to 40,000 VGA-sized photos

Casio Exilim EX-FS10, EX-FC100 High Speed Cameras

    January 9th, 2009

The latest Exilim models, the Exilim EX-FS10 and EX-FC100 are unique, and further solidify Casio’s position as the king of high-speed cameras. These cameras combine the phenomenal continuous shooting frame rates and amazing video capture capabilities of Casio’s EX-F1 and compact size, thus allowing users to carry them along anywhere.

The “card-sized” FS10 and palm-sized FC100 share a Casio-developed 9.1 megapixel CMOS image sensor that’s specially designed to make 30 fps shooting – faster than any pro DSLR – a reality. Although you’ll have to settle for a 6 megapixel capture in order to get 30 snaps per second, no other compact/ultracompact camera even comes close to this kind of performance.

As suggested, both models can also shoot video at 210, 420, or even 1000 fps using a high-speed movie setting, which translates to insane slow motion sequences when played back at normal speed. At the other end of the spectrum, high-definition video recording at 1280×720/30 fps is also supported on both models.
