The camera is not impressive in terms of its tech specs – the lens offers only 3x zoom, moreover, it is equipped with the Digital Image Stabilizer only for blur reduction, which means that the camera will automatically raise ISO level in low-light conditions or when it detects fast-moving subjects in a frame in order to deliver sharp pictures.

    Olympus FE-5030 Intelligent Digital Camera

    June 7th, 2010
    Olympus FE-5030 Intelligent Digital Camera

Olympus FE-5030 is a compact digital camera announced by the company at the beginning of the year. Its highlights include 14-megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom, 2.7” rear LCD screen and TruePic III Image Processor.

The lens is very well-done, with 26mm wide-angle coverage for shooting wide scenes and aspherical elements to reduce chromatic aberrations. But it is disappointingly slow f/6.5 at full telephoto, thus limiting handheld shooting in low light. On the positive side, the camera features mechanical image stabilization to minimize blurring.

The camera uses Intelligent Auto technology, which makes it simple to get a great photo. It analyzes key elements of the composition as well as lighting and automatically optimizes camera setting while you just point and press the shutter button.

There’s also Programm Auto mode that gives access to some minor settings and 14 creative scenes for you to choose from. The scenes are as follows: Portrait, Landscape, Night Scene, Night Scene with portrait, Sports, Indoor, Candle, Self-portrait, Sunset, Fireworks, Cuisine, Documents, Beach and Snow, and Pet.

To add fun to shooting process the FE-5030 offers four so-called Magic Filters - Pop Art, Pinhole, Fish-eye and Drawing – to create special effects.

For people’s shots, the camera offers Advanced Face Detection and AF Tracking functions. The former detects faces and applies correct exposure and focus to then while the latter keeps moving subjects in focus.

    Camera Reviews:

    Photographyblog:
The camera’s iAuto mode works surprisingly well. The lens can produce sharp results and chromatic aberrations are very well controlled, colors are more or less true to life, but the images often exhibit visible noise even at base ISO.
