1. Daytime direct sunlight will give hard and shapeless shadows similar to those from upper light in studio. Morning and evening diagonal rays reduce softness, but there is an advantage. Morning and evening light creates very intensive colors. The same effect you can get with front light in studio.

2. Oncoming natural light as well as studio lighting creates a favorable atmosphere and mood. Harsh sunlight and direct studio lamps make details sharp. While diffused light on a cloudy day creates soft colors.

3. There are two approaches to nude photography under natural lighting:

• you can show a model and nature as a unity
• or you can use expressive nature details as rocks, trees, etc for contrast

4. Where to shoot? Generally, photographers shoot at the water sources, mountains, in forests. The main problem is to find a peaceful place where there are no people. It is very important, because even an experienced model will hardly feel at ease during a nude photo session if there are people around. And if the model has no experience in nude photography, it is always better to start in studio or at a lonely beach.

As a rule, a nude models feels more comfortable near the water source. Rocky background does not help the model relax, but it allows to experiment with poses which may look absurd on the beach.

5. Use a long-focus lens if the background is too bright. It will help to create a narrow DOF, which means a blurred background and a sharp main subject. If the background is soft, you can use a shot-focus lens.

6. Color-reflection is wide-spread phenomenon. Be careful if you shoot in the forest, under trees or on the meadow, because green shadows are reflected on the skin and can spoil its color. Under the blue sky on the beach, shadows are usually blue, but a red towel, for example, on which the model lays, will give a red tone to the skin.

Standards of glamour photography have changed over time, reflecting changes in social morals. For example,

• in the early 1920s, USA photographers like Ruth Harriet Louise photographed celebrities to glamourise their stature.
• During World War II pin-up pictures of scantily clad movie stars were extremely popular among US servicemen.

However, until the 1950s, the use of glamour photography in advertising or men’s magazines was highly controversial or even illegal. Magazines featuring glamour photography were sometimes marketed as “art magazines” or “health magazines”.Playboy was instrumental in changing the world of glamour photography as the first magazine that focused on nude models and was targeted at the mainstream consumer. In December 1953, Hugh Hefner published the first edition of Playboy with Marilyn Monroe on the cover and nude photos of Monroe on the inside. Marilyn’s star status and charming personality helped to diminish the public outcry. When asked what she had on during the photoshoot, she replied “the radio.”

After Playboy broke through, many magazines followed and this was instrumental in opening the market for the introduction of glamour photography into modern society. Today, softcore nude photographs of models appear in publications such as Perfect 10 or tabloid newspapers such as Britain’s The Sun’s Page 3.

Recently several popular glamour magazines known as lad mags are reversing the trend by emphasizing glamour while showing less nudity, in favor of implied (covered) nudity or toplessness such as the handbra technique. Examples include FHM (For Him Magazine) and Maxim magazines, which launched in 1994 and 1995, respectively.

Here comes some general tips that will help you to choose the optimal position for legs of your model.

1. If you want to see your model with crossed legs in the photo, you should be aware some possible deformations of the form of her legs, especially in the area of calves. To avoid this effect, ask your model to lift a little bit up her upper leg.

2. If you take a full-length portrait, avoid placing a camera at eye level, because it may make the legs of your model seem shorter than they really are.

3. If your model has short legs, it is recommended to shoot from below. Or you can ask your model to tiptoe.

5. And last but not least! If you have any idea about visual arts, you are sure to know the term Contrapost. Though, as there still can be some readers who are new to photography and are not good at the history of visual arts, I will explain what it is.

This gives the figure a more relaxed and less stiff appearance. It can also encompass the tension as a figure changes from resting on a given leg to walking or running upon it (so-called ponderation).’

Contrapost has been used since the dawn of classical western sculpture. Such great masters as Discophoros, Doryphoros, Michelangelo and Donatello, as well as Leonardo da Vinci created their masterpieces using this technique. Soft silhouettes and voluptuous forms of a woman’s body photographed from the right angle and under the proper lighting attracts people of both sexes. But it is an often case when a model is too shy to expose herself. In this case the best solution can be to photograph your model from the back.

A back and buttocks are often subjects of nude male and female photography. But it is clear that there are completely different requirements to a male and female models. A well-built, muscular back is usually required of a male model. A woman’s back is soft, the lines are more harmonious.
Wide buttocks distinguish a woman from a man. A young woman with a thin waist and beautifully round hips looks very appealing and can become an ideal subject for posing for nude photography.

Soft lighting will make her body look even more erotic. You’d better avoid too deep shades.
If the lighting is bad, you’ll end up with dark shades in the area of a sacral bone and it will inevitably spoil a beautiful look of the back. If you want to get high-end images of the back of a model, you should remember, that the brighter the lighting and the closer the camera is situated from the model, the better all flaws of the skin will be seen.

That is a very important fact as even young models often have flabby skin in this area because of lack of exercising. In this case it is better to avoid shooting too close. The same rule should be observed if there are too many spots and scratches on the model’s skin. Small defects won’t be noticeable if you take a full-length portrait, but if you shoot separate parts of body as back, they will spoil your work. Though today it is not a problem any more – you can always get use of skin flaws in the post process in Photoshop. Or you can try a heavy make-up, just do not overdo it, otherwise your model will look unnatural.

The photo is not good if the shades on the model’s back are too dark, but it won’t be good either if there is no shades at all. A back will lose all its attractiveness without soft shades, which can be the result of dull lighting. So you should be conscious about lighting as it is the most important element of portrait photography, and nude photography in particular.

Fine Art Nude Photography is the most sophisticated and aesthetically beautiful photography style. But there is a fine line between a refined erotic art and an unaesthetic and even offensive porno. Let’s discuss Nude photography in details, in this post you will find a hint at the most favourable and appealing poses in nude photography and learn how to accentuate the beauty of a nude body.

1. A belly and hips are those parts of the body looking at which one can easily tell what way of life you lead, what are your eating habits and how much exercise do you take up. Each photographer knows that these are areas where fat accumulates. A straight directed lighting makes folds of fat better visible in the image and even magnifies them. And sucking in doesn’t help. So be careful about the lightning. But also remember that a small pleasantly rounded belly if it becomes the model’s body build won’t spoil the view and even makes the model more appealing.

2. A nude photographer should always be alert to transverse folds, which always appear in a belly area if the model sits or stands on her knees. This is of everybody’s concern, even of slender people. These fords arise if the model is not concentrated on her pose and if she slouches. The photographer should train his eye to notice such details. Usually one can easily get rid of transverse folds – just ask your model to straighten her back or even deflect backwards. All folds will disappear immediately and the belly will look smooth and strained.

3. Hips is another (breasts are the main one) characteristic feature of women. Their voluptuous forms can be nicely accentuated if they are photographed from the front. But if the model has too wide hips, you’d better avoid shooting her from this point.

4. Lighting is a powerful device in photography. It may help you make a hip area seem narrower. Direct the light so that only one contour of hips was illuminated, while the other one should disappeare in darkness.

5. If your artistic conception doesn’t allow such an arrangement, you can ask you model to turn her bottom part a little bit away from the camera at an angle of about 25 degrees. And if her top at the same time is situated frontally to the camera, even a rather full figure will look slenderer, especially in the waist area. But in this pose, the photographer should be alert to skin folds in this area.
