Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS5K Review

July 2nd, 2008

Lumix DMC-FS5K.jpgPanasonic Lumix DMC-FS5K combines easy operation with a slim and sleek look, enabling both beginner and advanced users to take beautiful digital photos with a camera they can slip in their pocket. Featuring 10-megapixel resolution and a 30mm wide-angle Leica DC lens with 4x optical zoom, the FS5 also has Intelligent Auto Mode, an advanced intuitive system of technologies that help users take better photos more easily.

Additionally, the fourth generation high-performance image-processing Venus Engine IV LSI helps produce higher-quality pictures with an advanced signal processing system. It adds a new high-performance noise reduction system that helps reproduce even the most delicate parts of images naturally and without color bleeding. The Venus Engine IV reduces shutter release time lag while still enabling high-resolution picture taking, making it easier to capture spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities.

Other features of Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS5K include approximately 50 MB of internal memory and a 2.5-inch LCD — perfect for easy-to-see viewing of images. Furthermore, the FS5 features an Intelligent LCD, which detects the lighting condition and controls the brightness level of the LCD to offer optimal clarity in any situation, whether dark or light; indoors or outdoors.

Intelligent Scene Selector senses the ambient conditions, recognizes the shooting environment and will automatically select the appropriate scene mode from: Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait or Night Scenery mode. This intuitive technology, helps the consumer use the most common scene modes that are built into the camera, but often go unused, without making any manual adjustments.

The battery and SD card placement is well designed (meaning, next to each other with one panel opening to deal with). Trigger button is significant and zoom in and out switch is where you’d want it. The screen IS the back of Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS5K, which grants a viewing area that’s impressive. It’s solid in feel and again, small enough for the pocket, bag, and hand palm.

Features:

  • 10-megapixel resolution captures enough detail for poster-sized prints
  • 4x wide-angle optical zoom; Mega Optical Image Stabilized
  • 2.5-inch Intelligent LCD screen; Face Detection
  • Intelligent ISO; Intelligent Scene Selector
  • 50 MB built-in memory; captures images to SD memory cards (not included)

Sony Cybershot DSCW120 Review

July 2nd, 2008

Cybershot DSCW120.jpgSony Cybershot DSCW120 capture smiles as they happen. The 7.2-megapixel Sony Cybershot DSCW120 features innovative Smile Shutter technology which photographs smiles as they happen. Built to impress, this model boasts a Carl Zeiss 4x optical zoom lens for high quality close-ups and Sony’s Double Anti-Blur solution for crisp, clear images. For speedy recovery, the BIONZ image processor gets you ready for the next shot. In addition, it has Face Detection technology that detects up to eight faces and optimizes focus, exposure, and color for accurate, natural photos of family and friends.

Smile Shutter technology captures smiles the moment they happen - without the need to press the shutter. The mode can be set to capture when your subject laughs, smiles or even grins, and like Face Detection is able to differentiate children and adults to set priority.

High-resolution images can be enjoyed in all their beauty simply by connecting Sony Cybershot DSCW120 directly to a Sony BRAVIA HDTV or other compatible HDTV3 . This provides an excellent alternative to viewing photos as prints or on a computer monitor, and is ideal for users who want to share photos in the comfort of their living room. Optional HD solutions include a Cyber-shot cradle/charger with component cable output, or component cable directly to your HDTV.

Supplied software makes it easier to upload, organize, and search photos on your PC. When shooting photos using your camera and an optional GPS unit, the software even provides a convenient map view function that lets you sort photos by location and display their origin on a world map.

A simplified camera environment especially attractive to beginners or digital camera users who want to keep things simple, Easy Shooting provides easy-to-read, on-screen instructions and limits the number of camera settings to help prevent misuse of the camera while still providing excellent results.

A quick press of the Home button opens your user-friendly graphical interface — and you can select functions by simply moving a cursor vertically or horizontally to the appropriate icon. Function names and the on-screen Function Guide display make it easier to learn camera setup operations.

Features:

  • 7.2-megapixel Super HAD CCD captures enough detail for photo-quality 14 x 19-inch prints
  • Carl Zeiss 4x optical zoom lens; Dynamic Range Optimization
  • Face Detection; Smart Zoom feature
  • HDTV compatibility; HD slide show with music
  • 15 MB internal memory; capture images to Memory Stick Duo/Pro Duo media
