Sigma APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG MACRO HSM is a large aperture zoom lens designed specially for digital SLR cameras with close-up capability.

It features a minimum focusing distance of 100cm (39.4″) throughout the entire zoom range, which is very convenient for close-up photography as you can capture the small animals and insects without disturbing them.

This lens has a complex optical construction of 18 Elements in 15 Groups with two ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glasses and two SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glasses to correct chromatic aberrations. Moreover, the lens’s super multi layer lens coating helps reduce flare and ghost.

The letters HSM in the title translate into Hyper Sonic Motor, which makes AF operation quiet and high-speed as well as provides full time manual focus capability.

The 70-200mm f/2.8 design incorporates an inner focusing, which eliminates front lens rotation, and inner zooming systems. Thus the lens does not change during focusing and zooming, that’s why it is easy to hold and use and allows for more convenient usage of circular polarizing filters.

The lens may be used with optional 1.4x EX DG APO or 2x EX DG APO Tele Converters. In such case, it becomes a 98-280mm F4 AF telephoto zoom lens or a 140-400mm F5.6 AF telephoto zoom lens respectively. It is also possible to use AE (Automatic Exposure) function with these tele-converters.
