Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC MACRO Lens
Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC MACRO lens is an ideal standard zoom lens for digital SLR cameras with APS-C size image sensor. Showing good performance even in relatively low light conditions indoors or at dusk it can be used with wide variety of subjects
The lens can be as well used with larger sensors (full-frames or 35mm SLR cameras), but if so it will show high amounts of vignetting.
This lens offers a large aperture of F2.8 at wide angle. It has a minimum focusing distance of 7.9″ (20cm) throughout the entire zoom range. Maximum magnification of 1:2.3 enables close-up photography like a macro lens.
As to its optical design, the 17-70mm features a Special Low Dispersion (SLD) lens and two aspherical lens elements to provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations throughout the entire zoom range. It also features multi layer lens coating to educe flare and ghosting.
The lens incorporates an inner focusing system, so fast AF speed is possible while the rotation of the lens’s front element is impossible. It is also equipped with Zoom Lock Switch that eliminates ’Zoom Creep’ during transportation.
Despite its wide angle of view, the lens is rather compact, with an overall length of 82.5mm (3.2″) and diameter 79mm (3.1″). It can be used with circular polarizing filters and petal shaped lens hoods.
