The Canon SD980 IS is a new 12.1-megapixel compact digital camera also known as the Digital IXUS 200 IS in Europe. It spots 24mm ultra-wide angle lens with 5x optical zoom for capturing stunning landscapes and get everyone in the frame even when shooting large groups of people.
The SD980’s touch-screen system allows you to select your shooting settings with a single finger-press. You tap the 3.0 inch widescreen to ‘point’ at the face you want to focus on, and the camera IS will automatically track your subject and keep them in focus.
In the playback mode a simple movement of your finger on-screen allows you to erase, protect, rotate or tag your favorite photos.
The SD980 IS features point-and shoot operation. Its Smart Auto mode with Scene Detection Technology does all the hard work, such as scene and setting selection, for you. Thanks to Face Detection Technology you can be sure that faces are always captured perfectly.
The camera is perfect for beginners as it offers a sleek menu system with ’Hints & Tips’ that guides you through your picture taking helping you to understand the settings and functions.
The PowerShot SD980 IS is scheduled to be available in October$329.99 in a choice of four colors – Blue, Gold, Purple, or Silver.

Given that this is a point and shoot pocket camera Canon may struggle to justify the price of the camera and a quick internet search will reveal better deals, though it does all that’s expected of it.
