The PENTAX Optio W80 is the latest PENTAX digital camera - waterproof, dustproof, coldproof and shockproof! It features 12.1 megapixels, a 5x optical zoom, 28mm wide-angle lens, HD movie shooting options and a 2.5 inch LCD monitor in a slim one inch body.
The PENTAX Optio W80’s waterproof design withstands depths of up to 16 feet (5 meters) and protects it from rain and spills. On dry land, the rugged, shockproof design protects against drops of up to 3.3 feet. The camera’s coldproof design allows it to be used in temperatures of 14 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 degrees Celsius).
The camera’s wide angle lens offers an expanded perspective that is ideal for landscape and group shots. The lens itself is said to deliver high-quality images with well-defined details. A Super Protect (SP) coating protects it from repel water, grime and finger marks.
A 2.5 inch LCD monitor with its anti-reflective coating is easy to view, even in bright sunlight, also due to its being 170° horizontal/vertical viewable. Brightness adjustment is available as well.
For making your images perfect the W80 features Fast Face Detection technology of 32 faces in a frame, Smile Capture and Blink Detection. Pixel Track Shake Reduction (SR), in its turn, ensures sharp images in any lighting condition, without adding high ISO noise. Movie SR is also available.
It will be available in Cardinal Red, Azure Blue and Gunmetal Gray in July 2009 for $299.95 USD.

The camera does handle chromatic aberrations well, and the 1cm macro mode is a real highlight. But its achilles heel is average image quality, with noise in particular proving a real problem with the relatively slow speed of ISO 100 suffering from easily visible noise.
