Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W290 Ultracompact

What’s new: Cameralabs.com have reviewed this camera!
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W290 was announced in February 2009. It offers 5x optical zoom, 12-megapixel resolution, advanced automatic shooting options, HD video capture, and a 3-inch LCD - all in an ultra compact body.
The W290 features 28 mm wide-angle lens. This broadens shooting possibilities, so you can shoot from detailed close-ups to panoramic landscapes and fun-filled groups.
Sony kept shooting options reasonably basic on the W290. It features point-and-shoot operation, though in Program Auto mode you have an access to ISO, exposure, white balance, focus, and metering. The camera also offers a choice of 10 Scenes in a SCN Mode.
Sony’s Intelligent Auto is also included in the W290. Turned in, it is reliable for results as it picks from eight scene types (Intelligent Scene Recognition) and turns on face detection (with child and adult priority) and image stabilization.
There is a Smile Shutter button on the top of the camera for instantly activating Sony’s have-smile-will-shoot feature. You will also find a Blink Detection function in the camera.
In a Movie mode the camera is capable of 720p HD-quality video. However, you can not use of the optical zoom while recording.
Camera Reviews:
Reviews.cnet.com:
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W290 is an excellent, well-balanced compact camera. It has nice design, user-friendly interface and controls as well as excellent price-to-feature ratio. Its downsides are soft photos and no optical zoom while recording video.
Dcresource.com:
The W290 did a great job with color, but sharpness and detail is the W290’s weak spot. The camera produces photos that are soft, noisy, with plenty of detail loss (especially on trees, grass, and low contrast items) — even at the lowest ISO setting.
Cameralabs.com:
The camera is easy to use, has slick design and build quality. Its has small flash recycling times. But it produces slightly soft image quality and provides no optical zoom while filming.
