Sony expands the Alpha family with the A380. This entry-level camera has been styled for comfortable handling and features 14.2 megapixels of resolution, 2.7 inch tilt display and Quick AF Live View.
Control layout on the Sony Alpha A380 is now with fewer buttons, so even first-time DSLR users don’t need to feel intimidated by the creative options on offer. Also there is on-screen Help Guide here and new graphical display that shows the relationship between shutter speed and aperture. And six Scene Selection modes will adjust settings to suit any subject.
Despite the friendly styling and compact size of the Sony Alpha 380, the new SLR camera doesn´t compromise on the picture quality, responsive shooting and advanced creative options.
The BIONZ image processing engine provides for detail-packed pictures with low noise, even when you’re shooting handheld. It plays also a key role in the cameras’ speedy responses, allowing continuous shooting at up to 2.5 fps (2 fps in Live View mode).
Sony A380 is equipped with D-Range Optimiser that intelligently adjusts exposure values in scenes containing very bright image areas and deep contrasting shadows. Tis is a handy feature whaen shooting in against-the-light shooting situations.
Thecamera features SteadyShot INSIDE in-body image stabilisation for clearer pictures when you’re shooting handheld. Best of all, the Sony Alpha 380 works with the complete family of Alpha interchangeable lenses, including new compact and affordable lenses - two telephoto zooms plus macro and portrait models. Kit includes: Sony DT 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 SAM.
Letsgodigital.org:
To introduce the Sony DSLR-A380 as the successor of the Alpha 350 is definitely a logical step, though there is by no means a relapse of specifications and on top of that, it’s an entirely new design. From a technical viewpoint and for image quality, there is a slight overall improvement compared to its predecessor.
Photoreview.com.au:
It’s a small, light DSLR camera with good performance as an upgrade to an advanced compact camera. Its Live View system can support fast autofocusing. Though if you require faster continuous shooting speeds than 2.5 frames/second and rapid image processing times and close-up shots are important to you, don’t buy this camera.
Photographyblog.com:
Here is a DSLR that you’ll be quite happy to take out with you for a day’s sightseeing when you might have otherwise plumped for a less satisfactory compact for the sake of its perceived lightness and convenience.
Dpreview.com:
If you shoot mainly at base ISO, in live view and Auto mode the Sony DSLR-A380 is worth a closer look.
At base ISO the A380 performs very well and delivers good detail and natural if slightly vivid colors. The Sony’s dynamic range is in line with the competition in this class.
Cameralabs.com:
Sony succeeded in shrinking the body and making it easier to use. But the sensor suffers from more visible noise artefacts than rivals at higher sensitivities, and delivers fairly soft output using the default settings. Continuous shooting remains very slow, delivering just under 2fps.
