Canon PowerShot SD780 IS Digital ELPH

Canon PowerShot SD780 IS (aka IXUS 100 IS in Europe) is the smallest Canon ELPH model to date and it is perfectly sized for backpackers and club-goers – just 0.7 inch thick!
The tiny SD780 sports a 2.5 inch LCD, 12.1 megapixel sensor, a 3x zoom lens and Canon’s latest generation DIGIC IV image processor. Face Detection, Blink Detection – it goes without saying on modern cameras. And the SD780 is capable of HD movies shooting.
The LCD screen’s generous viewing angles and overall smoothness don’t disappoint. Color accuracy is quite good as well.
The SD780 features Canon’s latest lens-integrated stabilization system, which uses a shifting lens element to compensate for camera motion. SD780’s system performs nicely in difficult environments –it’s possible to get some crisp 1/15 shutter-speed shots. Speaking of backlit scenes, the SD780 features Canon’s i-Contrast dynamic range tool which automatically lightens shadows without affecting highlights.
Camera Reviews:
“Strong Points:
* Seemingly indestructible build quality and fantastic styling
* Impressively reliable metering/exposure
* Bold, vibrant colors make outdoor shots ideal for from-camera printing
* Video capture looks very nice
* Smart Auto mode is effective and easy to use
* Snappy, unflappable auto focus
Weak Points:
* Noisy shots, even at low ISOs
* Occasional flash quirks in Smart Auto mode
* Screen and body stay clean, but scratch easier than previous SDs
* Images get muddy on the telephoto end”
Cameras.co.uk:
“The Canon IXUS 100 IS is a very good, pocket sized digital camera. It scores highly for picture quality, style and features, but it is expensive. If it is within your budget then it is likely to be hard to beat, but other digital cameras beat it for value for money.”
Photographyblog.com:
“This camera then is rather inoffensive and rather lovely. Its asking price feels about right given its weight, build and sophisticated finish. The picture quality doesn’t disappoint either.” They gave tit the Recommended mark.
Neocamera.com:
“The image quality is below average with too little detail retention due to noise-reduction and significant amount of edge-softness. When compared to the current ultra-compact champion, the Fuji F 200 EXR, the SD780 does not look too good. It is much easier to use and a great deal more intuitive.”
