Canon PowerShot A480

What’s new: The camera was reviewed by Digitalcamerareview!
Canon has announced the PowerShot A480 that is an extra-compact, affordable entry-level camera with a 10MP sensor, 3.3x Canon optical zoom, 2.5 inch LCD, Canon’s DIGIC III processor. That’s how Canon replaces its popular PowerShot A470.
With a new easier to use button layout for even more intuitive operation, the PowerShot A480 offers a new build and design that is 25% smaller than that of its predecessor – in a choice of silver, red, blue or black. Thanks to an improved User Interface, it’s as easy to operate. Compact proportions make the PowerShot A480 an ideal ‘take-anywhere’ camera.
At the heart of the PowerShot A480 is Canon’s DIGIC III image processor. As well as ensuring exceptional image quality – with ultra-low noise levels and outstanding colour reproduction – DIGIC III drives the rapid response times, and Canon’s own Face Detection Technology that detects up to nine faces in a scene and adjusts focus, exposure, flash settings and white balance – for optimal results with natural-looking skin tones.
To keep shots looking sharp, Motion Detection Technology uses changes in scene information to identify subject motion and camera-shake. ISO is then optimised for minimum blur and maximum image quality.
The A480 is a budget camera, but surprisingly it possesses detailed shooting info and a histogram during playback, easy access to ISO speeds, the same intuitive menu system, 1cm super macro mode, and 200 shot battery life - these featyres are equal or even surpass some more expensive cameras like the A1100 and A2100 Canon cameras.
Photographyblog.com:
The Canon Powershot A480 is an easy-to-use and well-balanced camera that produces good photos, making it an excellent choice for the first-time camera buyer.
Digitalcamerareview.com:
The camera is compact and easy to use and delivers excellent image quality in good light, but it has poor low light performance. And its LCD is grainy.
