    Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1/FT1

    January 30th, 2009
    Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1/FT1

There’s a review of this camera done by cameralabs.com!

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 is the manufacturer’s first rugged, waterproof, dustproof & shockproof digital camera. This camera is designed for both outdoor enthusiasts and general shooters seeking a go-anywhere camera and will be available as soon as in April.

These features are new to Panasonic’s Lumix line, but can be found on competitive models as well. They remind me of Olympus Tough series, for instance the Tough 8000 and Tough 6000 cameras. Where the TS1 really differentiates itself is in its ability to capture HD video sharing the same AVCHD Lite format with the new ZS3.

Besides, the 12.1 megapixel TS1 is a unique among weatherproof cameras as it features a true wide-angle lens with coverage out to 28mm.

Intelligent Auto Mode is also to be found in the TS1 and includes automatic scene selector, face detection, Intelligent Exposure and ISO Control, and optical image stabilization – note that this functions work in the Movie Mode as well. It also sports Face Recognition, allowing shooters to register and name commonly detected faces.

The camera features Panasonic’s Venus Engine HD image processor, which supports high-speed burst shooting, minimal shutter and AF lag times, and high-sensitivity shooting up to ISO 6400.

    Camera Reviews:

    Cameras.co.uk:
The camera produces good-quality photos. Throw in High Definition movies, a wide angle lens and some useful ease of use features and you have an excellent camera.

    Cameralabs.com:
If you’re looking for a great all-round compact which can also be taken to the beach without worrying about sand or splashes, or taking some occasional underwater shots, then the Panasonic FT1 / TS1 won’t disappoint. But it won’t perform well under more demanding conditions.

    Sample Photo Galleries: cameras.co.uk, cameralabs.com.

    Alternatives/Rivals: Canon Powershot D10.

Full review is available at imaging-resource.com. They came to a conclusion that “Panasonic has produced a real winner with the Lumix TS1: a digital camera that you can take anywhere, rain or shine, underwater, and you can even mistreat it and it’ll still turn in better photos than many other digital cameras on the market.”

    Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS25

    January 30th, 2009
    Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS25

What’s new: Cameras.co.uk have reviewed this camera!

The new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS25 is a 12 megapixel camera that can be described by just three words: stylish, easy to use and feature packed. In the USA it will be available in silver, black and gold in April 2009.

The DMC- FS25 features a 29mm wide-angle Leica lens with 5x optical zoom. Zoom ratio can be extended up to 9.8x in 3 megapixel resolution mode thanks to the Extra Optical Zoom.

The camera’s large, 3.0-inch LCD is “Intelligent”, I mean it detects the lighting condition and automatically controls the brightness. And it the High Angle mode the LCD screen is extremely easy to view when the camera is held high, such as when shooting over a crowd.

The DMC-FS25 possesses Intelligent Auto mode, in which it does all the work, activating AF tracking, Intelligent Exposure, Face Detection, Intelligent Scene Selector, Mega O.I.S. (optical image stabilizer), and Intelligent ISO Control. To activate all of these useful functions simply press an independent iA button on the top of the camera.

The funny feature of this camera is its new “Photo Frame” mode in which you can put attractive borders around the photo making your photos look like postcards.

Thanks to its Venus Engine IV, the DMC- FS25 supports a super-fast response time and also a High Sensitivity mode that allows you to capture subjects in darkness without using a flash.

    Camera Reviews:

    Digitalcamerareview.com:
The camera is easy to use, stylish and sleek, compact and great for traveling. Though sometimes it can produce unpredictable results, and shows poor ISO performance and slow AF.

    Cameralabs.com:
The FS25 produces decent quality images with excellent definition and good colour saturation at the maximum resolution setting. Though it doesn’t have HD video.

    Cameras.co.uk:
The Panasonic Lumix DMC FS25 is an unfussy, pocket camera. It has 12 megapixels, a 5x optical zoom lens and a 3 inch LCD screen. The Lumix DMC FS25 is also easy to use and has one or two extra features thrown in, such as image stabilization, bracketing and some extra color modes

    Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX40/DMC-FX48

    January 29th, 2009
    Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX40/DMC-FX48

What’s new: Cameras.co.uk as well as Steves-digicams have reviewed the camera!

We continue talking about Panasonic new cameras and now we are getting acquainted with the Lumix DMC-FX40 aka FX48, a 12-megapixel super slim digital camera with Face Recognition. In the United States it is known as Lumix DMC-FX48. The camera ships in April in a choice of black, silver or red.

The DMC-FX40 packages a 25mm Leica high-quality lens with 5x optical zoom. In 3-megapixel resolution mode, the Extra Optical Zoom function can extend the zoom power to 9.8x. Wide angle lenses are also a peculiarity of the other upcoming Panasonic cameras, the DMC-FX550/580, the DMC DMC-TZ7 /DMC-ZS3.

Newly added Face Recognition is a function that ‘remembers faces’ and displays the name you specified for that person and gives auto focus and auto exposure priority to this very person. Note that a maximum of six people can be registered.

In iA mode the camera does all the work to assure clear, beautiful and properly exposed images activating AF tracking, Face Detection with Face Recognition, Mega O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector, and Intelligent Exposure. You are free to simply compose the shot and press the shutter button.

The high-performance Venus Engine is responsible for “recognizing” the human faces individually, noise reduction and high-speed operation.

    Cameras.co.uk:
The Panasonic Lumix DMC FX40 takes bright colorful pictures. The pictures only could start to soften round the edges. Aside from that point I like the features and ease of use the camera offers.

    Steves-digicams.com:
While the FX48 offers some very appealing features, great HD video mode, and a nice wide lens, its image quality and performance results are not quite up to par with other models in this price range.

    Sample Photo Galleries: steves-digicams, cameras.co.uk.
