Casualty Images
To show or not to show-that is the question. This problem is quite relevant at present at the very height of the hostilities in Iraq. US magazines and newspapers are full of casualty images of those who fight in that country.
There are two opposing points of view concerning this issue. While some claim that it is a necessity to show all the horrors of war in order to prevent such things from happening, others are totally against this measure grounding their opinion by inhumanity and disrespect for the relatives of those who are killed.
It’s hard not to agree with each of them at least partially. But still, people are different and their fears are not the same… Some may look at such pictures and see nothing special, having observed this kind of things somewhere in the movie, and they just don’t take it seriously. Others are quite sensitive. Especially children… They are ready to sob
seeing a kitten asking for something to eat, or a broken branch, considering that it hurts the tree immensely. Just imagine what may happen if one day they look through morning newspaper while having breakfast, and see these casualty images, soldiers suffering from wounds, bleeding innocent civilians looking for some shelter, children with burnt skin, beheaded drivers and what not.

All this brands into people’s minds, and can’t have favorable consequences on their psyche. So is it really necessary to show ALL this terror, all those victims and sufferings of people?
Such magazines, newspapers and journalists in particular are strictly condemned by the public today. Their aims are clear, and (according to their own words) are noble. It’s impossible to make peace using such measures. Just imagine the feelings of those, whose sons, brothers, boyfriends and just friends were killed in such circumstances. Day by day seeing these pictures in newspapers, watching news on TV where the same scenes are shown, make their lives unbearable. So what’s the point? There is nothing attractive in it, and people are smart enough to understand the reality. So why should we make ready people for the war? Why not just enjoy the peace?
