See How Easily You Can Manage Lighting in Landscape Photography
Lighting in photography plays a vital role, because it does not only illuminate scenery, but also creates a mood of a photograph which is even more important. The light available may help you to create a masterpiece, or may completely spoil the final image.
1. The main aim of light in landscape photography is adding a mood to a photograph. Soft sunny light gives a funny mood, while nasty weather evokes melancholy and defused light on a foggy day gives the viewer the feeling of incompleteness.
When you will photograph a sunny landscape next time, ask yourself if you would like to shoot the same scenery on a cloudy day. In most cases it will make your image look inharmonious. Another example is a long curvy road, which looks very picturesque on a rainy or foggy day, but loses its attractiveness under other conditions.
Light is the main element of many landscape photographs, as it helps to render the message more effectively. That is why it is recommended that you should always try to wait for a suitable weather, which will help you to emphasize the mood of a photo.
2. There is another function of light in landscape photography. All photographers see their aim as to show unforgettable and original things.
Aspiring landscape photographers find themselves at a loss, as they can’t somehow change a landscape or add some original accents to it. That is why lighting is so important in landscape photography. Every minute lighting situation can change and this change will inevitably bring some changes to the mood of your photo. So it is lighting that adds originality to a landscape photograph and makes it stand out.
* When you shoot landscapes, it is recommended to take several shots of the same scene, because often a slight change in position of clouds or the sun makes one image better and another worse. I also should mention here that it is impossible to take a photo of the same scenery twice, so don’t lose a minute and shoot when you see a beautiful scene.
* As you have probably already noticed it is impossible to show lighting if you do not take advantage of shadows. That is why if you want to accentuate the play of light on a landscape, it is recommended you put accents on shadows. If there is no shadows on your image, it means you didn’t create a lighting, but provided a photo with illumination only.

* Putting a diffuser on a flash can also help in this situation.
* If you choose one object as the main subject and your camera focuses on another one, try to use a netural gradient filter that will make light difference between the upper and lower parts of an image less prominent.
