Camera tripod: advantages
We continue to speak about advantages of photography with a tripod. Here go the last five arguments for it.
16. Using a tripod allows to widen a dynamic range of a digital camera. If you shoot with a digital camera, you face the problem of a limited dynamic range. When the weather is clear, the sky on a photo often appears colorless. Or vise versa, you may get too deep shadows in this situation. These are results of a narrow dynamic range of a sensor. Sensor is not able to produce high contrast images. While digital camera developers try to solve this problem, photographers use their own way of improving images. They shoot two images of the same scene using different exposure settings. In a post processing they adjust levels in Photoshop. It allows twice heightening dynamic range.
17. Use a tripod to get a silk water effect. In addition to infrared and panoramic photography, there are lots of different photographic techniques, which help to create artistic effects. How can we show water movement on a photo, for example? We will get silk water effect, if we use a long shutter speed. For it should be longer than 1/2 sec, it is impossible to shoot without a tripod. Second, if we photograph one scene of moving water three times and then combine color levels of these three images, the water will look nacreous. We can’t go without a tripod, because the images should be identical.
18. A tripod may replace a diffraction filter ‘Star’. As we see from the previous points, a tripod gives its owner a lot of creative opportunities. But it also may help you to save some money.
For example, if you want to purchase for a filter ‘Star’ to shoot light stars around street lamps at night with your SLR that has a leaf shutter, don’t do it. Place your camera on a tripod, choose f22 or f32 aperture and shoot. You’ll get even better results than a filter allows.
19. A tripod is much cheaper than any image stabilization lens.
20. Shooting with a tripod helps the photography to get rid of unwanted guests. We have discussed all the opportunities, a tripod gives to its owner. In conclusion I want to mention about one more function of a tripod. It may serve as a means of self defense. You can use it to frighten an unwanted guest in a forest.
What kind of a tripod is it better to buy? It depends on what you are going to shoot with a tripod. As a rule, professional photographers have several tripods. But there are also universal tripods for amateurs, which relatively successfully manage each situation. It is recommended to start with a universal tripod.
