Tripod: for landscape, panorama and infrared photography
We have already discussed 10 advantages of using a tripod, in this post we will speak about more 5 pluses.
11. Using a tripod allows a landscape photographer to deepen a depth of field (DOF). DOF depends on aperture. If we set an aperture to f2.8, we will get a shallow DOF, which is good for portrait photography. Change it to f22 and everything in the picture will be sharp and clear, all the way from the dead tree in the foreground to the mountains off in the distance. It is good for landscapes. But when we choose a small aperture, we have to use a long shutter speed and consequently a tripod.
12. A tripod is essential when shooting with a pinhole camera. A pinhole camera is a camera without a conventional glass lens. An extremely small hole in a very thin material can focus light by confining all rays from a scene through a single point. In order to produce a reasonably clear image, the aperture has to be a small pinhole on the order of 0.5 mm (0.02 inches) or less. The shutter of a pinhole camera usually consists of a hand operated flap of some light-proof material to cover and uncover the pinhole. Pinhole cameras require much longer exposure times than conventional cameras because of the small aperture; typical exposure times can range from 5 seconds to hours or days. That is why a tripod will be of great help.
13. Infrared photography is impossible without a tripod. Infrared photography is getting more popular in digital era. Why it is advisable to capture infrared images using a tripod? An “infrared filter” used for this photography type blocks most of the light, which makes an exposure time very long.
14. Panoramic photography is possible with tripod only. When you stitch together images for a panorama, it is important that there is no perspective distortion. That is why all images for a panorama have to be taken from virtually the same point of perspective. Otherwise, images won’t stitch together - a tripod serves as a fixed pivot point.

15. A tripod allows a digital photography to increase a resolution of a camera. In addition to creating panoramas, combining images have one more advantage. Resolution of your photos increases. If you have a 6 megapixel camera, you’ll get 12-18 megapixel panoramas. This will make no difference for a photo on the Web or in your photo album, but it is important for commercial usage.
