Tripod: advantages
In the previous post we spoke about 5 advantages of a tripod. In a current entry we will continue discussing pluses of shooting with a tripod.
6. A tripod is essential for macro photography. A tripod is of great help for macro photography. If you have ever used a macro lens or reversing rings, you know how difficult it is to focus manually. Depth of field is an important consideration in macro photography. This makes it essential to focus critically on the most important part of the subject. Parts of the subject that are even a millimetre closer or farther might be noticeably blurry. That is why it is very difficult to hold a camera steadily. Thousands of blurred photos are the result of shooting without a tripod.
7. A tripod allows a landscape photographer to compose and focus a picture. Usually we use a viewfinder to find a subject turning a camera in different directions. But when we put a camera on a tripod, we can use a viewfinder according to its intended purpose – for precise focusing, composing a shot and setting lighting. When you hold a camera in your hands, you pay attention only at objects which are in the middle of an image, while with a tripod you notice all details.
8. A tripod will protect you from rain and snow. Weather helps a photographer to create a desired mood, that’s why shooting when it snows, rains is a wide spread practice. But not every photographer has a water proof device. So if you don’t want water to penetrate inside of your camera, it is recommended to photograph from a tripod, as it is much easier then to cover a camera with a water proof cloth.
9. A tripod gives more opportunities to a street photographer. Many photographers who are interested in candid photography use a tripod to improve their results. While passing people think that you aim at nearby buildings and pigeons, you take photos of these people. When you come to a place, install a tripod, put a camera on it and then wait for a subject (passing people), any passer-by will never think that you’re there to take photo of his/her. They will be sure that you came there for landscape or architecture. All that you have to think over is a place, where there are enough people passing and a nice background for your shots.

10. It is hardly possible to take a good portrait without a tripod. If only it is not a candid shot of passing people, you’d better use a tripod for people portraits. Read more in Portrait Photography Tips.
