Best digital cameras: Awards
If you want an objective opinion about digital photography products, or their manufacturers, you can easily find a host of digital photography services online, which will provide you with independent reviews of all digital cameras available. There is also a number of unbiased associations, which rank digital photography products and give annual awards to Best Digital Cameras. The most authoritative and prestigious Awards are EISA, TIPA and DIWA Awards.
The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) is the unique organization of 50 special interest magazines from 20 European countries, started in 1982. In June each year, the editors-in-chief from all EISA member magazines meet to decide which of products analyzed in their publications during the past year deserve the coveted EISA Award.
One strength of EISA’s European Awards is their flexible approach. The Awards categories, for example, are not recreated automatically every year. If the jury decides that, during the previous 12 months, and within a certain category, there have been introduced no new products that really deserve an Award, which category can be cancelled temporarily. On the other hand their juries are aware of the need to follow market conditions, so every year there is the opportunity to introduce new categories.
The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) is an international association of 31 magazines from 12 countries. The publications that belong to the TIPA are published by independent companies that have no relationship with either the manufacture or sale of photographic, video or digital products.
Since 1991, TIPA members meet once a year in April at the General Assembly to discuss projects, share opinions, comment on industry innovations and trends, often visiting historical photographic sites, museums or factories. In these three-day meetings TIPA editors also vote by secret ballot for the best photo & imaging products in Europe. The products have to be the very best in their categories, but also they have to be user friendly and to offer smart solutions, and a good price-value rate.

The Digital Imaging Websites Association (DIWA) is an international network of independent websites focusing on digital imaging. The main purpose of the DIWA organisation is to publish dependable reviews of products for digital imaging. Outstanding, excellent and highly recommended products are honoured with a DIWA Gold, Silver or Bronze awards, respectively. For the evaluation of cameras, each testing expert will examine a unique test sample, make a personal review of the product and evaluate the qualities of more than 200 functions and features in a standardised testing scoreboard. There are three charts for digital cameras, dedicated to “Amateur”, “Advanced” and “System” cameras. The balanced summaries from all DIWA experts are then transformed into a ranking list for each product category. The best products will receive a DIWA Award for excellence.
