Night photography: general tips
Howdy! I’m back again to help all entry-level photographers to enhance their digital pictures. And it’s night photography for today!
What is the favorite time of the day for lovers? Yes, night. And why? Because there is nothing more beautiful and romantic than the look of the night sky with the huge, cold moon and thousands of stars. And at what time of the day big cities look their best? Definitely at night, when millions of their lights are on. These views are surely worthy to be captured.
But do we always manage to take clear nighttime images? The answer – NO! Even experienced photographers often face some difficulties with their shots at night. Nighttime photos often look blurred, fuzzy, unfocused and lack details.
Still, there are some tricks that will help you to improve the results of your nighttime photography and to take sharp and detailed night shorts. I’ll start from some common tips in this post and then develop the topic in my future entries with more concrete tricks.
- I think, it’s obvious that the more expensive your digital camera is, the better images you may expect. I don’t suggest you pay a fortune for your cam, but a sub-two hundred-dollar one won’t produce perfect shorts. My advice is – don’t go extremes! Choose something in the middle.
- My next tip is first to consider dusk photos. Taking some pictures around sunset times, when it’s not completely dark may help to illuminate some details and at the same time to maintain that contrast so fascinating on nighttime pics.
- I believe I don’t have to remind you about planning your pictures before shooting in order to get a perfect angle. But what is worth while mentioning is that when planning your photos at sunset, don’t forget that every minute can be crucial. The lighting is changing very fast at this time and that may affect your shots.
- And last but not least, whatever photos you are going to take, the first thing to remember when you are leaving home is to check your power and storage supplies. It’s very pity to find out that the batteries are run out, or there is no more space on the memory card in the very beginning.
Keep in mind these very simple things and that may enhance your nighttime pictures to a certain degree. And read our blog to know more about night photography. Next time there will be about photographing the moon.
