Music Event Photographing
Musical concert shooting has its own characteristic peculiarities, as well as general rules of photographing. In the concert hall you can be either as a listener or as a photographer. If you are a listener who wants to take pictures for memory, then you don’t need to make serious efforts except for appearing at the right place and time with your camera. But if you really want to make good photos of musicians, you should prepare for that before the concert. Shows usually take place indoors, and shooting there is forbidden. Thus, you will need to obtain accreditation. For that purpose ask concert managers or musicians. Besides, if you have enough skills, you can obtain it on behalf of local mass media.

Do not think that you will be lucky at once to shoot as an official photographer at famous music bands or singers performances. Start with little-known bands, and then you won’t take much effort to get permission for shooting. Consider concert photographing experience to be necessary work at your portfolio. Though copyright for made photos belongs exclusively to the photographer, there is the rule, more ethic than juridical. No one can make you answerable for breaking the commitment, but your reputation can be spoiled.
Good, qualified photographers have been always in demand. In spite of existing competition, there are not so many interesting concert photos of high quality. So let’s decide what kind of photos would be competitive. Reportage shooting should authentically reflect the whole event. Emotions of the artist and audience are the key target of good concert photographing. Your photo should give message of the event to those who haven’t been to the concert. You should be involved emotionally into the event in order to take out valuable moments. A simple way to get bright emotional images is close shooting.

Microphone is indispensable attribute of the artist, so it should be part of your image, but no way should it close the artist’s face. Try to get the right perspective.
Do not try to be right before the scene centre. Stand at a small angle from it.
