Bruce Mozert. Water Legend.
From now on we start getting you introduced to eminent and uncommon photographers.
We decided to start with unusual but at the same time very attractive works of Bruce Mozert.

Bruce Mozert is considered to be the pioneer of underwater photography. Those days he couldn’t even imagine that his photos would become famous all over the world and would start the whole era in photography of the sea world!
Mozert started dealing with photography art as a young man. His sister Zoe Mozert, the famous female pinup artist, introduced him to Victor De Palma, then a top photographer for Life. That was a great experience, while Bruce got many useful skills and knowledge for his further independent photography activity. A year or later on, he started working with Black Star, a prominent New York City photo agency, and his work appeared on the cover of many publications.
Mozert came to Silver Springs in 1938 to do photography work for a Tarzan movie. The round tank the staff possessed was too big for filming underwater, so Mozert created his own first underwater camera! He built a case around his camera made of galvanized metal and electrical tape. Then he found an old inner tube and attached it to the camera so he could slide his arm inside and take the picture.
So it went! He made black-and-white images in so good quality that MGM snagged them for publicity stills. But later on his works were recognized by real photography appreciators.
Bruce Mozert made the collection of underwater life, where models (aha, so interesting and unusual his ideas were that they attracted famous for those times models and actresses!) did usual for earth life things – they read newspapers, cooked barbecue, etc.
Mozert is now 91. He still lives in Silver Springs and maintains his photo studio. His works and the possibility to meet a living legend still attract many tourists to his native town.
