Apple Aperture 2.
First of all it should be mentioned that Aperture program is not a rival for Adobe Bridge, Camera RAW, Adobe Photoshop, iView, iPhoto, etc. Aperture has many of their functions, but their combination takes it to another level. Aperture can be named a program for photo postproduction, i.e. a full-fledged tool for managing photos processing. What Has Been Left From the Previous Version? 1. “Smart Albums”: A simple album contains photos from one or more projects that have been placed there by the user. It is static. A “smart album” in fact is the result of photos searching according to the preset parameters. But it is not so important. As soon as a new photo corresponds to the set parameters, it is automatically placed into this album. 2. Loupe: It allows viewing photo fragments with 16x zoom without changing the whole photo scale. 3. “Nondestructive editing”: In the Aperture library there is always a so called master file saved. During any photo editing a so called version is created. It is an XML-file, which contains the list of changed parameters and effects. It saves disk space, and the original file is kept unchanged.
What Has Been Changed? 1. System requirements have become moderate: The second program version works now at any Mac (including MacBook and Mac mini with integrated video card Intel GMA). 2. Working speed has been increased. 3. Some functions work in the background mode: It doesn’t matter whether you export 100 or 10 photos; you can continue working in the program. 4. It provides more accurate color rendering. 5. Quick Preview: JPEG-version of the edited photo is shown (provided that a camera has saved JPEG and RAW at the same time). 6. Optimized user interface.
Plug-ins for Aperture One more very useful update in Aperture version 2.1 is the use of plug-ins that expand the program possibilities. The following plug-ins are available: 1. Tiffen DFX: A set of effects, which imitate work of optical filters. 2. Digital Film Tools. DFT Light: A plug-in for light adding; it contains more than 500 ready for use masks. 3. Digital Film Tools. DFT Power Stroke: A simple method of photo areas selection. 4. Nik Software. Viveza: A module for selective color correction with U-point technology.
