Customers Reviews 2010-03-05 Fun camera! I've been looking for a carry around camera for those times when I do not want to lug around my DSLR. I have tried many Point & Shoot cameras and then I discovered the Casio line of the Exilim models. I have owned the EX-FC100, EX-S29, and now the EX-z90. Of all 3 the FC100 is my favorite with its ability to shoot High Speed video, but this Z90 is a very close second. First of all, you will not find excellent performance and picture quality in any line of P&S cameras, but the Casio does a pretty good job for the price. I can print quality 8X10's, and very good 4X6's with this Z90.
This Z90 is very small and easily tucks away in a pocket. Portability, is what I am looking for in a P&S camera, the Z90 is perfect for portability. The Z90 shoots good quality video, and the HD is very good. It is good enough that I sold my Flip camcorder, and take all my on the fly video with the Z90 and FC100, no need to carry 2 cameras anymore.
Do you like gimmicky? The Z90 has it. The Multi-Motion Image is very cool, it takes multiple shots and merges them together into one image. It is basically a Strobe effect in camera, to do that with a DSLR you need a flash that has a repeating mode, and that flash is $300. The Z90 also has an ebay setting tha uploads faster to ebay, with a smaller file size, but it is a one button selection, easy. The video also has a YouTube selection and a YouTube software included, that makes unloading to YouTube again a simple push of a button.
Another gimmick it has that I like is the Dynamic photo, very cool. You can take a photo and take a subject out and layer it into another photo, all in camera, very easy, and very cool. The Z90 also has a feature similar to Nikons d-lighting, which works very well. It will take a under exposed photo and add light, I like it. It also has a B&W setting, a pastel which is kinda like an oil painting or watercolor setting. One other settin I like is called cross, which is just like the star burst filter to make the lights look like they are stars, it looks pretty good. If you are not a gimmicky type of person you may not like these features, but I think that anything that is different than your static photo is great.
All in all the Z90 is a very good second camera, or even a good primary camera for someone who wants to be able to take good photos and take quality video with just one camera. I am very particular about my cameras, and I really like this camera alot. I carry it with me everyday and it has never let me down. If you want a small easy to carry camera that will produce quality photos, and give you some creative options as well, this just may be the perfect camera for that.
I give it a 5 out of 5, it's alot of fun, and is portable enough to carry with you all the time.
I am not going to go into all the specs, they are easy enough to find all over the internet. I bought mine at Adorama for $149, that included the camera, case, battery, charger, wrist strap, and gorilla type flexible tripod. It also included additional software for the Dynamic Photo set-up. That is a great deal, and I would recommend getting the kit like I did, it has everything you need. Have fun with this camera. | 2010-02-07 excellent combo this camera is the best and for the price does more than other expencive ones | 2009-10-20 I love this camera I ust bought this and I think its great! The pictures are clear and crisp. The only thing I would suggest would be a high speed SD card as the processing/save time may delay multiple shots. I was using this at the full 12megapixal/fine setting so it makes the file fairly large. | |
