Make them smile!
This is sure fun at a wedding reception, take a picture and project it on the table cloth! It brings out the smiles. And its just a darned good camera, easy to use, logical functions and you wind up with really good pictures.

Newest Nikon needs work
This review is about the camera's built in projector. The camera itself is just fine. It works good and takes great pictures. This review is about the projector only. I am somewhat of an electronics junkie. I like most of the latest gagets and when I saw the Nikon s1000 I flipped. How cool to be able to project a photo you just took onto a wall. It would be so much better that trying to have everyone stand behind the camera and look at that tiny screen. Well, it is not much better. There are several things you need to consider before buying one. First, it is useless in the sunlight. You cannot see the image unless you shade it and then it is only slightly better. Two, you have to be about 5 to 6 feet from the wall. Farther than that and the picture blurs out too much to see detail. This becomes a real pain in that unless you live in a small travel trailer you do not usually have an available wall that close to show your pictures on so you have to stand up and go to the wall. Now everyone is standing for the entire slide show. Third, you need to have a wall! I never realized it but I have alot of pictures on my walls. I do not have many areas I can go to and project my picture on. Lastly, the wall has to be white. Any other color and it washes out your pictures details and color. I do not recommend this camera if you plan to use it as a projector. You would be better off hooking the camera to your TV for home viewing and for on the road just pass the camera around.

A must have for today's On-the-Go family
What a great camera for the busy family and so much fun for the holiday - where the friends/family can share photo without booting up the PC or unplug/plug into a TV...
although the size, resolution and lighting is limited, but the convenience outweights any negative aspect...

only concern if the cost of changing the projector light and the battery life...

great innovation....

Nikon Rocks
Ok, a projector sounds a little wierd, but once you get this camera, you will change your mind. First of all it is a great camera even if it didn't have the projector. It takes great pictures and compares with many cameras selling for about 375 - 425, so might as well get the projector. You will use it more than you think. I love it! Buy this camera, you won't regret it.

It is lightweight, small and has every feature you would want in a camera. In a dark room you can project images up to about 65" and they look pritty good.

A one of a kind
I concur with the other 5 star reviews. It is for small groups of 4-5 viewers. It is not as bright as the big boy 2000 lumen, but adequate within its limits. I am also a hobby artist, with the projector I can store comps, project, and rough out line art. This alone makes it worth the purchase. The innards are state-of-the-art, as good as any other 12meg pix P&S. There is a lot of undiscovered potential lurking within. One drawback is that the only input to the projector is via the camera. somewhere, somebody will hack the file format on the SD card so you can load your other pictures for projection. I'll then give it 6 stars.

Update: here is a software that converts jpeg from other sources to Nikon coolpix s1000pj format that can be saved on SD card and viewed with the built in projector. [...]. it works with other models and mfg's formats. Now I give it 6 stars. I can convert my powerpoint training slides for projection on the s1000pj, and carry it in my shirt pocket, now that's cool!

Nikon Cameras History

Nikon Corporation is one of the major companies of the Mitsubishi Group, a multinational corporation headquartered in Tokyo, Japan and specializing in optics and imaging.

Nippon Kogaku K.K., or Japanese Optical Society (afterwards became known as Nikon Corporation) was formed at July 25, 1917 as a result of merging of three firms: Tokyo Keiki Seisaku-sho's optical division, Iwaki Glass Seisaku-sho и Fujii Lens Seizo-sho. The new company was aimed at manufacturing high-quality optics for Imperial Japanese Navy. And up to 1945 it actually was their main goal that determined the company’s philosophy and traditions. The first president of Nippon Kogaku was Yoshihira Wada.

Apart from military equipment the company produced microscopes, telescopes and other measuring instruments for industry and science. From 1932 they started serial production of Nikkor lenses for photo cameras. It’s an interesting fact that all Canon cameras, launched between 1937 and 1947 were equipped with lenses produced by Nikon!

After the WW II Nippon Kogaku K.K. manufactured its own camera –a rangefinder Nikon 1 – and stopped manufacturing lenses for Canon. The new camera appeared already Nikon-branded.
