Bang for your buck
I did a lot of research before I took the leap, and it definitely paid off. I think ounce for ounce, this is the best compact camera in it's price range. Furthermore, I think this particular price range is the sweet spot for amateur's that want a decent photo from a camera that slips into a small pocket.

Pros:
Wide angle and incredible optical zoom for it's size. Decent software, and plenty of features for a point and shoot. Great battery life, and very quick response for shots.

Cons:
As some have noted, the low light shots aren't anything special, but they aren't as bad as some make it out to be. The ISO is very easily tweaked, so be sure to play around with it a little if you don't like the results at first.

Notes:
You'll need to purchase a memory card along with this camera as the internal memory can only store a few photos. Also, I recommend purchasing a case and a screen protector.

Lumix...
Couldn't get the movies to play on Vista... Doesn't recognize the file type?
Otherwise an awesome piece of hardware!

panasonic COOL
the Panasonic Lumix uses a professional grade Leica multi-element lens. This provides very sharp images that can be cropped and enlarged.

Love this camera!
Still learning it's features, but even the first shot was a huge improvement over my old Nikon Coolpix L6, which had a long delay. I'm catching all those cute grandkid moments in action, no more back of the head frustrations.

Great Point and Click
Bought the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1 in November and have been very happy with my selection. With 12.1 megapixels, the pictures are clear and crisp. The camera easily fits into your pocket, but don't let the small size fool you on quality. I have been so pleased that I recommended that my son and daughter in law purchase the same camera.

I also purchased the 4 gig memory card, which will give you over 1,000 shots. This is a great package.

Panasonic Cameras History

Panasonic Corporation (formerly known as Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.) is a multinational corporation based in Kadoma, Japan.

Panasonic was founded in 1918 by Konosuke Matsushita. The company was first selling duplex lamp sockets.

The production of road and touring bicycles and their components composed a substantial portion of the goods manufactured by National/Panasonic Corporation from 1945 through the end of the 1980s.

In 1955, the company labeled its export audio speakers "PanaSonic", which was the first time it used its "Panasonic" brand name. This name was created from the elements "pan" meaning "all" combined with "sonic" meaning "sound”.

After Konosuke Matsushita traveled to the United States in 1961, Panasonic began producing television sets for the U.S. market under the Panasonic brand name, and expanded the use of the brand to Europe in 1979. The company began opening its plants around the world. It quickly developed a reputation for its reliable products - televisions, radios, and home appliances.
