Customers Reviews 2010-03-14 good camera with a poor memory The fact that you must spend extra money for a memory card detracts from an otherwise good camera. The card that came with the Olympus holds only 10 pictures and before you take another they must be deleted or down loaded. I suspect that's one reason it's priced so reasonably. | 2010-02-25 Not what I expected I remember those point-and-shoot Olympus digital cameras from mid 2000s - great images with click of a button. That's what I was expecting - and got disappointed. The picture quality is even worse that my old Canon A60 (from year 2003) makes.
The biggest problem is - megapixels. Too many. Many megapixels combined with small sensor area in compact cameras result in very much noise at dark. The camera images are too noisy in any indoor environment, even at relatively low 400 ISO and even with flash! In other hand stabilizer is good - indoor images are sharp, but noisy.
And will you ever need all those 12 megapixels? I doubt. Will you get noisy images because of them? Sure. But this is marketing.
And, the worst thing - you may lower the megapixel setting in the camera - but sensor will still be the same high-resolution high-noise one.
The second big big problem is proprietary standards. The cable and connector look like mini-USB, but they are actually some kind of special Olympus-only connector. You may, fortunately, use micro-SD card (not only inferior xD) with this camera - but it is connected unusual way through the special adapter.
And compact size has it's drawbacks - it's hard to hold the camera in hand but it's easy to accidentally close flash with your finger. buttons are tiny even for my small hands. | 2010-02-22 What I wanted-Almost This is the the 3rd Olympus digital camera I've owned. The prior models were 2 and 5 MP, respectively. I upgraded to the Stylus 7010 in order to get sharper "close ups" at my kids sporting events, etc.... The 7X zoom and 12 MP really helps. Like my previous Olympus cameras, it does not do well in low light situations (unless you're using a tripod). I had hoped it would perform better at indoor school functions, etc... However, it's compact size and relatively light weight make it easy to pack and carry. SUGGESTION: get an additional battery; I did. The LCD screen uses a lot of juice, so another battery is necessary for prolonged use. | 2010-02-10 A good friend in daily life I'm not a professional photographer, and I bought this camera only for recording my everyday story, scene and something interesting. I really love this dapper and powerful camera, amazingly thin with 7X optical zoom, and also an appealing price. I also love the pictures it takes, beautiful light and nice focus. You can also try a various of features and modes it contains and you'll always find a proper combination for what you'd like to record. Besides, I like the big LCD very much as you can see clearly even when the sunlight is strong. | 2010-02-04 Great camera for the price This camera is easy to use, has many features that are easily understood and easy to use, good optics, and has a fast power on time and is available for the next photo shortly after taking a picture. One small downside is it uses the Olympus/Fuji specific XD memory cards which are available in sizes UP TO 2GB. But it does include an adapter to use Micro SDHC cards. I found a 2GB XD online for $15 and a 8GB (type 6) Micro SDHC for $17. So either format is cheap and easily available. | |

Olympus Cameras HistoryOlympus Corporation (early known as Takachiho Seisakusho) was founded by Takeshi Yamashitaon on October 12, 1919, and initially specialized in microscope and thermometer businesses. The company is named after Mount Olympus, the home of the gods in Greek mythology.
Olympus continued the tradition of manufacturing high-quality optics through the development of camera lenses, starting in 1934. Two years later the Zuiko lens was born.
Through its history Olympus Company has manufactured various types of cameras: medium-format cameras, fully automatic zoom cameras, 35mm cameras, EE-equipped cameras, autofocus cameras - in different series.
The history of Olympus cameras began in 1936, when they introduced their first camera, the Semi-Olympus I. It was very expensive camera for that time.
In 1959 the first truly innovative camera series was launched - compact and portable (for their time) PEN models. They were half-frame format, allowing 72 pictures of 18 × 24 mm format on a stand... More About Olympus Cameras |
