Customers Reviews 2010-02-15 It's a battery The camera works well with the battery installed.
It doesn't appear to work at all with the battery removed.
So ..... five stars.
But seriously folks ...... the battery's ability to hold a charge and perform under stressful conditions, e.g., cold, will be tested after a year or two rather than a few months.
For a general review: I've tried a third-party battery (CTA) that was well-recommended and priced half of Pentax. Eighteen months later, it was holding only half the charge of my Pentax battery and I was scrambling to get at my spare. Lesson learned. | 2010-02-14 Last forever! Buy Pentax OEM batteries. Lasts forever in my K-7! It is the same battery included with the k-7 from the factory. Charges good, holds charge, and last forever! | 2010-02-12 Pentax K-7 Battery Review Bought this battery at a great price from Amazon. Same as the original battery that came with the Pentax K-7 camera. I use it as a backup battery and it comes in handy for those long day shoots. | 2009-12-03 great battery I am glad I purchased the additional battery it has saved me a couple of times. | 2009-10-16 Long-lasting and reliable battery. I considered a couple cheaper off-brand batteries for my new Pentax K-7 DSLR before finally deciding to just go ahead and get this official Pentax battery, and I'm glad I decided to go with this one. A lot of off-brand batteries either don't let you take as many shots or lose power quickly when left in the camera unused.
In terms of function this is almost identical to the Pentax D-LI50 rechargeable battery for the Pentax K10D or Pentax K20D DSLR cameras. The only difference seems to be the shape, so if you've used other Pentax rechargeable batteries in the past you'll have a pretty good idea of how this will perform.
This battery holds a charge for a very, very long time, allowing you to easily power through several hundred shots without needing to be recharged, and it also keeps its charge for a very long time even when just left in the camera sitting on the shelf. I've used this battery in cold, hot, and even WET conditions when shooting portraits next to a waterfall, and it's worked perfectly every time.
I don't have the Pentax D-BG4 Battery Grip for Pentax K-7 Digital SLR yet, so I've just been keeping this charged up as a backup battery in one of the side pockets of my Domke F-2 Bag when I go on long trips, and it's been a tremendous help. No more worrying about trying to find a plug to recharge my battery at night when I'm on camping trips, as long as I have this with me as a backup I know I can take as many pictures as I want without having to worry about battery life.
The construction is heavy duty, the battery does what it's supposed to do well and without any problems, and comes with a reliable Pentax warranty.
Why put yourself through the headaches of trying to deal with off-brand companies when you can just get this instead?
PROS:

Pentax Cameras HistoryPENTAX Corporation (before 2000 known as Asahi Optical Joint Stock Co.) was founded in 1919.
In 1952 they manufactured first Japanese 35mm SLR camera with a cloth curtain focal plain shutter and shutter speeds range from 1/20 to 1/500 sec. It was called Asahiflex I. But even more revolutionary was their Asahiflex II (1954), having has the world's first instant return mirror system. Before that a photographer had to manually bring down mirror after having taken a picture. This system made rapid shooting possible with a SLR.
In 1957 Asahi Optical Joint Stock Co. carried out another coup - they used of a pentaprism in the viewfinder of the Asahi Pentax SLR. The pentaprism made eye-level viewing possible and provided correct images. It was also the first time that the name Pentax was used on a camera. The very name, as you might have guessed, is derived from “PENTAprism reflex.”
