Customers Reviews 2009-11-21 Great features and picture quality, but it leaked I was looking to replace my point and shoot digital camera and I decided that the underwater, durable cameras had reduced in size and price enough that I could go with one of those as my primary daily camera. I went with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 because of its size and its ability to shoot 720P AVCHD video. The camera took great photos and very good video and I would highly recommend it as a durable outdoor digital camera. However, it is simply NOT capable of being used underwater reliably. The doors on the device for accessing the battery, SD card, and HDMI port are simple "snap" doors. It needs some type of clamp system to create a better seal. The very first time I used it underwater, it leaked and the camera broke. Luckily, I was still within my return period, so I returned it for a full refund. There are other underwater cameras that are better constructed for underwater use, but they don't have the feature set of the Lumix DMC-TS1. This is Panasonic's first entry into the underwater camera market, so hopefully next year's model will have the same, if not better, feature set but a better method of sealing the camera. | 2009-11-20 Nice Camera, decent video I did a lot of research before purchasing this camera. I needed a 'tough camera' after drowning my previous Nikon CoolPix while kayaking. My requirements were water proof, compact, and can zoom while shooting video. Of the various tough cameras this, and the cannon, are the only ones that can zoom while shooting video. The cannon is not as compact. The only drawbacks of this camera are the shutter lag which you get with most all of the point and shoot models and it takes about 1/2 second to start up. The pictures and video are very good for a point and shoot. You can even shoot in high definition video mode. It is not an SLR so don't expect that level of performance, but for what it is, it is great. | 2009-11-15 Use it in sea water, and you have a brick. This supposedly 'waterproof' camera is not.
I used mine 5 times in total, once in the sea, and this was the kiss of death for this expensive gadget.
Even though the 'water damage' seal is intact, the camera wont turn on, that's it.
Very unimpressed, I thought I would not take a risk buying this branded camera, turn out to be a useless piece of rubbish. | 2009-11-12 Horrible product! Failed to turn on after first use. First of all, although the wider lens is nice, this camera has very poor performance with low light conditions compared to my Canon G9. I bought it for the waterproof capability. I used it under water one time, and followed all the instructions. I have to say some of the underwater photos were decent if enough light was present. The second time, the camera failed to turn on whatsoever, and I missed taking pictures of sea turtles. | 2009-11-11 great camera Great camera. Quality pictures for a point and shoot. Worked perfect in the water. Took it to the beach and worked great. Great camera to take on vacations...you don't have to worry about it getting wet. I hooked it on my wrist and carried it everywhere. Love the features that most of the other point and shoots don't have. It gives you some options with the flash and adjusting the exposure, which is nice. Video is also good quality. Would definitely recommend this camera. | |

Panasonic Cameras HistoryPanasonic Corporation (formerly known as Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.) is a multinational corporation based in Kadoma, Japan.
Panasonic was founded in 1918 by Konosuke Matsushita. The company was first selling duplex lamp sockets.
In 1931 began the production of radios. But earlier, in 1927, it produced a bicycle lamp, and it was their first product marketed under the brand name National – meaning for people, for nation. The production of road and touring bicycles and their components composed a substantial portion of the goods manufactured by National/Panasonic Corporation from 1945 through the end of the 1980s.
In 1955, the company labeled its export audio speakers "PanaSonic", which was the first time it used its "Panasonic" brand name. This name was created from the elements "pan" meaning "all" combined with "sonic" meaning "sound”.
After Konosuke Matsushita traveled to the United States in 1961, Panasonic began producing television sets for the U.S. market under the Panasonic brand name, and expanded the use of the brand to Europe in 1979. The company began opening its plants around the world. It quickly developed a reputation for its reliable products - televisions, radios, and home appliances.
In the 1980-s, Panasonic continued to produce <... More About Panasonic Cameras |
