Excelent Photo Quality, Just Select ISO 200
Excelent Camera, for those who said "grainy photos"...... just take the camera, select ISO 200 and thats it.... excelent photo quality, easy to use. This camera came with great ISO quality more than common cameras, just select 80, 100 or 200. Believe me this is an excelent camera.

Just do it!

Turn on the cameraç
Menu
ISO sensitivity
Select 80,100 or 200 (In the night better 200)

And thats it, excelent pics...

Poor design and construction
I bought 3 of these (2 as X mas presents and 1 as a birthday present). If I had only known how they were made I never would have bought one. The lens is a piece of junk and just stops working for no apparent reason. Two of the three had this problem. I sent both of the cameras off under warranty. What a hassle, Nikon sucks!!!

They honored one under warranty and six weeks later they returned that camera. The other one they demanded the receipt and we could not find it. They want $ 108 to fix THEIR defect on a camera that retails at $ 145. The camera has been at Nikon repair for months now, I don't think it will ever leave that place. They refuse to stand behind their product, I refuse to ever have anything to do with them.

The camera that did come back lasted less than one week. My daughter took it with her on a class trip and put it in her backpack. When she went to get the camera out of the backpack the touch screen was cracked. The weight of other backpacks cracked that. No use sending that into their warranty department... they will never honor that.

The third camera was dropped by my son while running on the driveway and is horribly scratched, ironically despite the cosmetic scratches that is the only one that has work perfectly.

So, a lens that is defective, a touch screen that cannot stand normal wear and tear, built by a company that fails to stand behind their product. Don't waste your money.

Nikon Coolpix s230
Great little camera, takes great pictures, thanks to one of the previous reviewers that described how to set the mode to automatic. Worked great, unfortunately I purchased this for someone else, can't wait for my two year old HP to break so I can get one for myself.

The touch screen is awesome, reduces the clutter of buttons to just a couple, I didn't realize how small this thing was until I opened the box. I thought my HP was small, this isn't much bigger than the 3" screen.

Be sure to get the s230 and NOT the s220, there is a huge difference.

Nikon Cameras History

Nikon Corporation is one of the major companies of the Mitsubishi Group, a multinational corporation headquartered in Tokyo, Japan and specializing in optics and imaging.

Nippon Kogaku K.K., or Japanese Optical Society (afterwards became known as Nikon Corporation) was formed at July 25, 1917 as a result of merging of three firms: Tokyo Keiki Seisaku-sho's optical division, Iwaki Glass Seisaku-sho и Fujii Lens Seizo-sho. The new company was aimed at manufacturing high-quality optics for Imperial Japanese Navy. And up to 1945 it actually was their main goal that determined the company’s philosophy and traditions. The first president of Nippon Kogaku was Yoshihira Wada.

Apart from military equipment the company produced microscopes, telescopes and other measuring instruments for industry and science. From 1932 they started serial production of Nikkor lenses for photo cameras. It’s an interesting fact that all Canon cameras, launched between 1937 and 1947 were equipped with lenses produced by Nikon!

After the WW II Nippon Kogaku K.K. manufactured its own camera –a rangefinder Nikon 1 – and stopped manufacturing lenses for Canon. The new camera appeared already Nikon-branded.
