What more can you ask for?
For the price of $259.00 the camcorder is worth every penny. I thank Amazon.com for providing such great products for incredible deals. Best Buy has this same model camcoder for $349.00 before tax. Pesonally i will not shop @ that store for any reason. The camcorder works great my only dislike is low light recording. works perfect otherwise. P.S. With 60gb hard drive, you will never have to buy dv or dvd. rate it 4of5.

Sound died after second use, and Customer Service could care less
We bought the Panasonic SDR-H80 just before our baby was born in late October. We tested it once before she was born, and then used it once in the hospital for a few minutes -- it seemed reasonably easy to use, and the picture and sound were okay. A few days later, on the third use, we noticed that the sound quit after about five seconds of recording -- it would start okay, but then it would just go mute, every time. We checked the manual, read forums and message boards, recharged, restarted...nothing worked. The camera would record, but all sound would quit after about five seconds every time. My husband contacted Panasonic customer service right away, and they suggested resetting the camera using the "reset button." There IS no reset button on our camera! He e-mailed again, and they provided instructions on how to reset the camera using the menu system. He followed the instructions, and we still have a soundless camera. He sent three e-mails in the last few months, asking for further guidance or service (all very polite -- we're not the type to holler), and Customer Service has ignored us completely. Soooo...if your sound works and continues to do so, congratulations! If it doesn't, beware -- Panasonic Customer Service wants nothing to do with you. We contacted a private camera repairman, and he suggested it was the microphone at fault; to repair it would be $90 labor plus $99 to replace the entire front panel. We bought a Kodak Zi6 instead, and the picture *AND* sound are working well...and it's twice as easy to use. No more Panasonic for us!

Panasonic SDR-H80 Camcorder
I am still having problems coming to terms with operating this camcorder. The best thing about it is its light weight and portability. While I did not expect HD quality pictures, I certainly believed that the picture quality could be better. Unless there is professional lighting, it is a total waste of time trying to use this camcorder in the night. It is quite suitable for a child to experiement with but an adult wanting to capture serious moments would need to look somewhere else.

didn't believe bad reviews, wish i had now!
I didn't believe the bad reviews about how this camera records at a really poor quality level in low-light situations. My sister and her husband have this same camera, a couple years older, and love it! I made a DVD in no time on their computer when we visited them so we could take it with us. My daughter watched the DVD dozens of times to remember her grandparents and aunts and uncle.

I wanted a camera that was just as easy to use to make a DVD!

But I have a Mac!

Unless you have the newest version of iMovie, your Mac iMovie will not recognize the format this camera records in. That was my initial disappointment. I had to spend even more money to update iMovie just to make a DVD!

You'd think Panasonic would want to be Apple-friendly. Lame. Or that Mac would want to be more friendly toward ALL formats out there, since they brag on being so "media-friendly!"

And yes, the picture quality is POOR in anything other that bright, outdoor lighting.

Plus, I do not understand how we have never taken any data off the thing and it says we still have like 9 hours of recording time left to put on the hard drive! Shouldn't the picture quality be larger so that it only holds maybe 5 hours or so! We do NOT have the "web" recording on. I even have it on XP, the highest quality.

VERY POOR PICTURE QUALITY
Size, ease of use, features and zoom are real good for the price. But both video and still picture quality is very, very poor. My wife bought this for me as a Christmas present but I cant wait to return it..What good is a camera if the picture quality is 3rd rated..

Panasonic Cameras History

Panasonic Corporation (formerly known as Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.) is a multinational corporation based in Kadoma, Japan.

Panasonic was founded in 1918 by Konosuke Matsushita. The company was first selling duplex lamp sockets.

In 1931 began the production of radios. But earlier, in 1927, it produced a bicycle lamp, and it was their first product marketed under the brand name National – meaning for people, for nation. The production of road and touring bicycles and their components composed a substantial portion of the goods manufactured by National/Panasonic Corporation from 1945 through the end of the 1980s.

In 1955, the company labeled its export audio speakers "PanaSonic", which was the first time it used its "Panasonic" brand name. This name was created from the elements "pan" meaning "all" combined with "sonic" meaning "sound”.

After Konosuke Matsushita traveled to the United States in 1961, Panasonic began producing television sets for the U.S. market under the Panasonic brand name, and expanded the use of the brand to Europe in 1979. The company began opening its plants around the world. It quickly developed a reputation for its reliable products - televisions, radios, and home appliances.

In the 1980-s, Panasonic continued to produce <...   More About Panasonic Cameras
