Customers Reviews 2009-11-19 Best camera for deploying military... To be short and sweet- this camera rocks. I'm deployed overseas and knew I would be in some rough areas. This camera will take a drop onto rocks, take pics underwater and overall just continue to work through anything. The pic quality is not somehting to be desired but that's not why you buy this camera. I don't even use a case to carry it around because you don't really need one. The camera is probably as tough as most camera cases out there. It's a heavy point and shoot, but you end up liking that weight when diving or snorkeling anyway.
Overall, great product for those extreme sports people out there who enjoy rugged things that don't break. | 2009-11-14 Olympus Tough 8000 Is very durable The Olympus Tough 8000 is the most sturdy, durable, waterproof and impressive sport 12MP camera I have used.
It takes fantastic underwater pictures and video.
I definitely recommend this camera.
The price was amazing (~$300).
Shipping was extremely fast. | 2009-11-14 AWEOME CAMERA!!!!! I bought this camera because I knew I was going to Costa Rica to freedive/snorkel and I am very pleased with it. I never had to worry about it at all. I was definitely down 30+ ft. a few times with no problems. I just slipped it into my wetsuit through the neck opening and forgot it was there until I saw something worth shooting. The pictures/videos came out great and I can't wait til my next trip to Marathon Key, Florida to use it again. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants quality underwater photos/videos. Here is a youtube link for the videos I took underwater in Costa Rica. After you click on one you can click on see more videos to see the rest. Enjoy!

| 2009-11-14 Great for mountain climbing So I took this camera to Colorado and big bend. Construction wise and temperature wise this camera held up superb and I definately recommend it to anyone for such duties. It also has a pannorama mode that automatically merges three pictures into one.
For dawn type shots around 5 a.m. This camera can take good pictures if your shutter speed cooperates and the camera finds something close by to focus on. However those shots only worked out 30% of the time. Night shots are pretty much a lost cause unless you photograph a bright moon.
Day time and early dusk photos always look great at an iso of 100 which I'd recommend for best picture quality.
Side note: my first camera came with a defect. A pixel in the bottom center ofthe camera was bad so that all my pictures had a white spot there. At first it wasn't as noticable, but as I took more pictures that spot gre and grew and became an utter nuisance. Amazon was great in replacing the camera for me and the new one appears to be without defect.
The camera also has a crude altimiter which can be enabled and calibrated for climbing. I have a more accurate one, but for rough reference of your ascent pictures it's a nice feature.
Because of the defect ruining some of my pictures, because dawn picture quality being subpar, and general picture quality only being above average I give this camera 4 stars. Ruggedness wise this is the camera to get! | 2009-11-13 Awesome Waterproof Camera I bought this camera specifically for my honeymoon back in June. We went to Fiji, and I wanted to have something to take underwater shots of the coral, etc.
This little thing did better than expected. The instructions suggest that you keep it underwater for no more than 10 minutes. We went on a 45 minute dive, and it held up. I did get a little nervous when after about 35 minutes underwater, I began to notice some 'bubbles' forming under the screen. I don't know if it was air, or if water got it, but when I got to the surface I opened everything up to dry out, and it disappeared soon.
The pictures and video underwater turned out fantastic.
I've dropped it a couple times, and generally used it like it's made to be used, and it's held touhg for over 5 months. So, definitely worth it if you're going to abuse it and want something to hold up underwater! | |

Olympus Cameras HistoryOlympus Corporation (early known as Takachiho Seisakusho) was founded by Takeshi Yamashitaon on October 12, 1919, and initially specialized in microscope and thermometer businesses. The company is named after Mount Olympus, the home of the gods in Greek mythology.
Olympus continued the tradition of manufacturing high-quality optics through the development of camera lenses, starting in 1934. Two years later the Zuiko lens was born.
Through its history Olympus Company has manufactured various types of cameras: medium-format cameras, fully automatic zoom cameras, 35mm cameras, EE-equipped cameras, autofocus cameras - in different series.
The history of Olympus cameras began in 1936, when they introduced their first camera, the Semi-Olympus I. It was very expensive camera for that time.
In 1959 the first truly innovative camera series was launched - compact and portable (for their time) PEN models. They were half-frame format, allowing 72 pictures of 18 × 24 mm format on a stand... More About Olympus Cameras |
