Customers Reviews 2009-11-07 Takes Great Pictures, Has good edting software This was a replacement for my K1000, 35mm. I loved my K1000. I bought the K1000 in 1978. I finally broke it. I have a snapshot digital camera too. Get one of those snapshot things for your facebook site or use your phone. This is a real camera, it takes great pictures. The lenses it came with are excellent. The zoom is good. It is not a macro. You can get better lenses to mount to it, but the two it came with work for every situation I photograph. It is not a pro-camera. It's for an amateur, but even amateurs can take some pro-quality pictures with the K2000. It came Corel Paint Shop Pro, which is a great program. Corel seems easier to use then Photoshop. I love the burst-mode and auto-bracket. Burst-mode is great for a fast moving situation. It does three or four frames fast, then it starts writing to the memory and slows down. It has digital filters. It has a small flash, but you can get sync flash if you want. It has shake reduction. You can adjust the ISO. The controls are somewhat complicated, but I am coming from a K1000, and snapshot digital. There are so many controls. I have not even tinkered with all of them. Until you can afford that Leica or Nikon D700, and lenses to go with, this is perfect. | 2009-10-18 New dig
The camera arrive in good packageing and on time with items specified. I really am enjoying using. | 2009-10-08 Fantastic Camera I am so happy with the Pentax K2000. It is incredibly easy to use. If you are new to DSLR photography then this camera makes the transition from a point and shoot as easy as ABC... There is even a help button to remind you what your setting options are. For the more experienced DSLR user it is also very easy to use, you can very quickly change your settings on the fly, it is very intuitive, so instead of fumbling around and missing that perfect moment you catch it every time. It's light in the hands yet it is sturdy and feels great to handle. I am still experimenting with it, but the quality of the pictures I am getting is fantastic. I love it!! | 2009-09-23 Pentax Over the Years Over the last 25 years I have owned three Pentax cameras, the K-1000, XZ-60 and now the K-2000 digital camera. I have always found them to be well built and take good pictures. I am not a pro by any means but these cameras have made me look like one. Ask me again in about a year about the 2000. | 2009-09-13 Great camera for any camera buff I take more bad pictures than good... with this camera set up, I am able to take more pictures faster than I could with my old 35mm SLR and I am also able to filter out all the bad to find the good without the expense of developing the bad along with the good. I would recommend this camera to anyone wanting to transition from point and shoot to digital SLR... very easy to use and fun at the same time and the picture quality is awesome. You can't beat the deal of getting a camera body and two lenses for one low price... I'd say, if you are interested, get it while you still can.

Pentax Cameras HistoryPENTAX Corporation (before 2000 known as Asahi Optical Joint Stock Co.) was founded in 1919.
In 1952 they manufactured first Japanese 35mm SLR camera with a cloth curtain focal plain shutter and shutter speeds range from 1/20 to 1/500 sec. It was called Asahiflex I. But even more revolutionary was their Asahiflex II (1954), having has the world's first instant return mirror system. Before that a photographer had to manually bring down mirror after having taken a picture. This system made rapid shooting possible with a SLR.
In 1957 Asahi Optical Joint Stock Co. carried out another coup - they used of a pentaprism in the viewfinder of the Asahi Pentax SLR. The pentaprism made eye-level viewing possible and provided correct images. It was also the first time that the name Pentax was used on a camera. The very name, as you might have guessed, is derived from “PENTAprism reflex.”
