Customers Reviews 2009-11-16 Perfect 720p projector Recieved the projector in good shape and after an easy setup a great picture and good sound | 2009-11-03 Owesome product for the price! This is the second time to buy an Epson EX70 projector. First time I purchased it for my church, and I bought it again for myself. It supports 1280x768 / 1280x800 wide screen which is mostly used in the laptop these days, and also it is a very good screen ratio for watching movies. I personally like to watch the movie with projector at home; that's why I bought EX70. I searched over 20 models from each company, and EX70 was the best above all at this price ($600~$700) since I don't want 1024x768 / 800x600 resolution. I need at least 1280x800.
If you want more than 1280x800, that's a different story. The price will go up to $1000 or more. In my opinion, if you want to use it at home, 1280x800 is absolutely enough. EX70 also has a 1.2x Zoom function, so even though you have a very limited length to shoot projectors, you'll get a big screen. Moreover, this is not a LED/LCD TV. This is a projector. There's not much difference between 1080p projectors and 720p projectors in details if you're not a professional.
In addition, it supports HDMI 720p, and USB display which let you be able to play multimedia files without computer.
All in all, I still think that my choice was the best, and never regret. | 2009-10-30 Amazing image quality and functionality for the money spent I am using the EX70 in a home theater. I have it ceiling mounted, approximately 13' from the projection surface, throwing a roughly 112" diagonal image. The projection surface is a custom painted wall, and the room has modest ambient light. The image from any of my sources (DirecTV SD and HD, HTPC via DVI/HDMI, LG Blu Ray player, Netflix streaming) is stunning. It's very bright and crisp. Even with all of the room lights on and the blinds open in full daylight, it is very watchable. Dimming the room makes the image incredibly vivid. Given the low cost of this projector, the brightness, contrast and clarity are exceptional. I'm using the projector in low power mode. There is no need for the brighter mode in my application, and the projector is quieter in the low power mode.
The EX70 has numerous modes for aspect ratio (16:10, 16:9, 4:3, native, auto, etc), color/contrast enhancement (sports, theater, text, presentation, etc.) The included remote is simple to use, although I am controlling the projector with a Harmony remote that integrates all of my equipment. Another handy feature: Direct power on. You can set the projector to turn on when power is present at the outlet. I have it powered from a switched outlet on the back of my AV receiver. This simplifies things for casual users.
The good:
- 720p/1080i produces excellent image quality
- Very bright
- Quiet
- Long lamp life
- Low replacement lamp cost
- HDMI, VGA, S-video, USB
- Good remote with easy to use menus
- Useful configuration choices, particularly the flexible aspect ratios
- Built in speaker with decent sound, for presentations or plain-old TV watching where high-end sound isn't important
Drawbacks :
- It's not 1080p
- It doesn't have RGB component inputs (you can use an adapter on the VGA connector).
- While you can drive this unit from a PC via USB, it's inferior to VGA or HDMI (USB image quality is good, but can lag).
The first day my wife watched TV from this projector, she said: "There is one problem with this projector: I can't stop watching!"
| 2009-08-17 Great choice for PS3 gameing and BR movies! I am very happy with my decision to get the ex70. I was looking for a 'cheap man's' 1080p that could handle my PS3 for games and movies. My other requirements were inexpensive lamp replacement cost, long lamp life, quite operation, and short throw distance. The Epson preforms all my requirements very nicely. With a 2 year warranty this projector will give a anyone a happy experience at a outstanding price. | 2009-08-14 Awesome projector!!! We bought this projector for our church and it works great in our setting. We've only had it for about 3 weeks and it's been working great. It is a very bright projector, which is what we wanted. In the sport mode you will get the brightest screen. | |
