Excellent lens for the price
The build quality is excellent. Images are sharp, color is superb. I have had a blast learning new tricks with this lens. The only fault I have is a common complaint for this lens; flares. I shoot against the light for many of my landscapes. This lens is very susceptible to flaring. It is actually a very minor fault, IMHO. Other had that, I recommend it highly.

This lens delivers exactly as advertised
This is a great lens. For anyone who has not used an UWA, it will be a thrilling and rewarding experience. This lens forces one to learn a whole new realm of perspective. I'm just getting used to it, but I can foresee this as my walk around the city lens. Look at the images posted by others and in the reviews. They are simply stunning and this lens delivers every time. AND its fast as lightning. Very good in low light -- at f2.8 and low light it captures images one simply could not get otherwise.

Like every Tokina, it's built like a tank, its mechanically sound, the MF/AF clutch works superbly, especially in really low light, and the IQ simply can't be beat at this or almost any other price. BUT: get a Speedlight to get your flash up higher on the camera. This is a big lens with a really wide field of view. The on camera flash doesn't cut it. I've also read the reviews of people who were disappointed. Maybe Tokina had a bad batch. It doesn't appear so in my case. Maybe the lens doesn't work well with every autofocus body. I have a D300 and it works superbly.

good and smaller than I though
I bought this lens from Photo4Less after I saw the price went up from 599 to 699, I got 604 from F4L on Amazon. it came to me 2 days after I put order. great service.

At beginning I heard a lot AF problem about it with Nikon D80, I do not have this problem, it is fast AF/DX lens, like my other on out ring the lens, you may need to pull out from MF to AF, than there is no such issue with Nikon D80.

My order is an import item, In All in Japanese, after google on internet, all cleared.

I took some picture outside house, it looks great. I will take more before I give final evaluation.

Best Priced Ultra Wide Angle Fast Lens
I bought the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 for my Nikon D90 DX for
cityscape and landscape photography which always have
a magnificent vibe when they are taken through ultra-wide
angle lenses. I wasn't willing to pay more than double
the price for a Nikon UWA because I usually get into
this line of photography for only about 10% of the time.
But man that 10% is well spent with this lens on my D90.

With that being said, this fine piece of "reasonably priced"
well built glass does deliver excellent images comparable
to Nikon glass. The sweet spot of which being 2/3 within the
center at f2.8. The manual/autofocus switch-ring actually came
really handy for me at several occasions specially when I
bother to take advantage of the D90's HD video capturing feature.
You will get the cinema peripheral vision framing.

I recommend pairing this lens with a circular polarizer with
the hood on when shooting outdoors under sunlight. This thing
takes in light darn fast. Under low lighting condtions, you can
easily shoot under low ISO and still get sharp images.

One thing though, it's pretty heavy for a short zoom lens but
that's what you get when you purchase good quality glass.

GO GET IT!

Now that's wide
I ordered this months back, well it finally came in and wow, I'm loving it, super sharp, very fast focus, pretty sharp wide open even. I'm on a D90, would love to see what the 15mm and 16mm ends look like on FX or Film. Build quality is great. Just a super lens from front to back. Tokina lens caps are crap tho, I'll probably get a nikon front and rear cap. oh well.

Nikon Cameras History

Nikon Corporation is one of the major companies of the Mitsubishi Group, a multinational corporation headquartered in Tokyo, Japan and specializing in optics and imaging.

Nippon Kogaku K.K., or Japanese Optical Society (afterwards became known as Nikon Corporation) was formed at July 25, 1917 as a result of merging of three firms: Tokyo Keiki Seisaku-sho's optical division, Iwaki Glass Seisaku-sho и Fujii Lens Seizo-sho. The new company was aimed at manufacturing high-quality optics for Imperial Japanese Navy. And up to 1945 it actually was their main goal that determined the company’s philosophy and traditions. The first president of Nippon Kogaku was Yoshihira Wada.

Apart from military equipment the company produced microscopes, telescopes and other measuring instruments for industry and science. From 1932 they started serial production of Nikkor lenses for photo cameras. It’s an interesting fact that all Canon cameras, launched between 1937 and 1947 were equipped with lenses produced by Nikon!

After the WW II Nippon Kogaku K.K. manufactured its own camera –a rangefinder Nikon 1 – and stopped manufacturing lenses for Canon. The new camera appeared already Nikon-branded.
