Customers Reviews 2009-09-22 Praise for the RCA Traveler The delivery was very good. When I used it I found that it was very easy to use and also like the way of downloading of pictures. Also like the length of time i.e. 4 hrs. and that I can increase this time also. I had an RCA little world but find this better. | 2009-09-21 Not Worth Your Time or Money! Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R39OHO8HDLNY5J When I first came across this item, it was because I was searching for a practical means of quickly capturing video for web upload that did not involve much computer processing or the constant purchase of film/miniDV cassettes and the like. So, I was intrigued by the RCA "Traveler" Small Wonder's supposedly's point-and-shoot-and-upload capabilities.
Well, upon receiving this machine, I was quickly disappointed! It performed fine for a total of 6.5 minutes, whereupon the screen then went black for the next four days. During this time, no recording whatsoever was possible. On the 5th day, when I turned it on, in the morning, the entire screen then turned to exhibit blue and white sparkly vertical lines, with absolutely no indication that the lens, in fact, is able to focus on anything! The "camcorder" has since remained in this mode for the last couple of weeks.
I changed the batteries and even downloaded and installed a so-called "firmware upgrade" from the company's site, all to no avail!
And then, upon telephoning the customer service rep; (1) I was disconnected multiple times.... (2) the same single customer rep on duty (...no wonder one has to wait a long time to speak to someone: there's only ONE service rep answering the phone! ...and she knows NOTHING about the product whatsoever!) told me that there was nothing that she could do, as she had never heard of these "symptoms" occurring to the Small Wonder before! The only solution offered was to mail in the product "for evaluation".RCA "Traveler" Small Wonder EZ210 Digital Camcorder with 4 Hour Recording and 2GB Included SD Memory
So, if you ask me, I recommend that you do not waste your money nor your time on this rinky-dink piece of manure! It's obviously been manufactured with built-in obsolescence by a sleazy company out to make a fast buck while dodging any type of professional support or responsibility for their merchandise.
Never again, RCA... never again! | 2009-09-12 Terrific little camera. Love the camera -- compact, easy to use, takes great shots. HOWEVER, beware Amazon's offer to buy an SD mini-card with this camera. It doesn't use a mini-card; it uses a regular SD card. I didn't read the fine print and got stuck with a useless $20 mini-card. Now what? Sell it on eBay?
Still, the camera is great. We're having good fun with it. Sturdy little devil, too -- it's already been dropped a couple of times to no ill effect. | 2009-07-28 Not at all what expected!! I received this and immediately started to click and take video of everything in sight! It was so easy to use, but then when I tried to upload the photos my PC was giving me an error message. After talking to RCA, trying to upload new software-twice, sent the machine back because RCA claimed that it was defective, received yet another 'Traveler' (after 6 weeks of waiting) and guess what?! It had the same problem. Returned it and feel this is not worth the money or the time!!!! | 2009-06-09 "A horse is a horse of course of course.... " "A horse is a horse, of course, of course" is a line from the old "Mr. Ed" TV show. It came to mind because that describes this camera. It works like a horse, is rugged (it's been dropped with no ill effects), looks decent (a tinnie bit large, but not unreasonably so), does good quality work, and is easy to use.
The video quality is great in Hi-Res and more than adequate for web quality. You get about an hour of recording in Hi-Res and between 3 and 4 hours in web-quality. Plus you can take individual shots. I did a whole wedding in available lighting this weekend at web-quality and the pictures are terrific.
The video editing software downloads from the camera the first time you hook up to a USB port to download your movies/pictures on each computer. The RCA Memory Manager (I think that's it's name) that gets installed is a low-end product but seems to work ok once you get the hang of it. Basically it let's you "slice and dice" your videos and recombine them or cut out parts you don't want in the final version. More than adequate for what I want to do with it.
I think it's a bit large compared to something like a Flip but not really very big. The size makes it easy to handle and the viewing screen is actually big enough to see what you are looking at. It will easily fit in all but the smallest pockets or purses and the lens cap keeps the finger prints out of the videos and still shots. I do find myself cleaning the viewing screen though.
The only thing that I don't like about the product is when it semi-automatically compresses the file for emailing I think the resolution "sucks" and you loose a tremendous amount of quality. But, since it is trying to make it small enough to email it isn't supprising... those bits of information that it compresses out gotta come from somewhere.
Since I'll use other means to email it really isn't a problem for me.
Overall, how do I like it? At around $80 I absolutely love it.
Would I buy it again? Absolutely!
It's a great quality product for the price and definitely in contention with the Flip, in my opinion.
Oh, yeah, I almost forgot... we've been using it off-and-on for a couple of weeks now and still have not changed the batteries (two double-A's if I remember right but I didn't pay attention when we unpacked it.). | |
