Poor picture quality
I bought one of these on clearance, due to the 800x600 resolution and the low price compared to other frames with similar resolution.

The first thing that I noticed is picture quality is bad, real bad. It looks to me like the frame is not displaying the original jpg image that you saved, but is instead loading the jpg, compressing it heavily, and then displaying the compressed version. This is particularly bad on dark photos, or if you don't have the brightness at the highest setting. If you turn the brightness down, even just one or two settings, all pictures look like they are heavily compressed, not just the dark ones.

Another thing that I noticed is that the colors seem over saturated. Again, this is most noticeable when the frame is not at the brightest setting.

All of the pictures that I tested with were exported from Lightroom on a color calibrated monitor to fit within the frame's native resolution, so I know the quality problems are not with the pictures themselves. Autofit is also turned off, so the frame is not resizing and pixelating the images.

As someone else mentioned, the menu system is redundant and confusing. There are two separate "Setup" menus, with some redundant settings between them. Also, the menu control seems to be slow and unresponsive most of the time.

I can't speak for the long term quality issues that others have mentioned, I've only been using this frame for less than a day.

This frame will be going back, and I will be trying a different brand.

Useless in a short time
A releative got one of these for my mom, and it's quite unsuitable for her, due to the placement of the memory card slots, the mini-usb cable connection (not included, Philips? really? couldn't justify that extra $2?)
The default pictures are deletable, but I think that process scrambled its brain, and:
memory cards falied to display pictures
USB connection results in drives XP insists on 'insert disk into drive' ?? in other words, no USB access.
A 'Factory reset' fails to get it going. Attempting to do anything with it seems to fail to display pictures.

It does conveneintly re-pack into the box for convenient return, though. Different brand will be tried.

A First Class Product
The photo frame worked as advertised straight out of the box, using Windows XP. Very good sharp pictures. Navigation through the menus could be easier, but is possible with the help of the instructions. No complaints.

Very happy with it
I purchased two as gifts. I found the picture quality to be excelent. Good 800 by 600 dpi resolution. I had no problem loading pictures and viewing both thru a 1 gig SD card and the usb connection. I had a little trouble navigating the menu but then I only looked at the instructions for about one minute. Once I figured it out it was easy enough. I really liked the range of times available for the slide viewing, from 5 seconds to 1 day. I liked the auto shutoff feature. I did have a little trouble with copying pictures over. Seems like I had to create subfolders in order for all the pictures to copy over. But once over they all displayed. It does not bring a remote or play video or sound but I did not want those features anyway. Over all I'm very happy and will probably buy one for myself soon.

Avoid at all costs
I bought this unit as a replacement "upgrade" for the 5.6" one I first bought which was cheap but not very cheerful on the eyes.

Yes - you cant get rid of the picture of the baby that comes with the unit but worse still was that it started having problems after only a very short time.

This new unit worked great ... nice display with crisp and clear pictures.. but only for a few hours after which the "auto-fit" function stopped working and it put nasty rainbow coloured borders around the pictures instead of fitting pictures to suit the position of the frame (landscape/portrait). Even worse, ALL the portrait orientation pictures were distorted and looked extremely pixelated. Even if I created pictures 800 x 600 it still gave problems.....

What a waste of my weekend.... It always seems the same these days. When a new technical thing comes out there are always bugs... then down the road they fix them with a "firmware upgrade". But why do the users have to suffer for this "beta testing" which should have been fixed in the labs?

My advice is to totally avoid this range of photo frames!
