Sigma lens for Nikon DLSR
I bought this Sigma lens after much consideration. I have used a friend's Nikon lens and it took beautiful pictures. However, being that I am a recreational picture taker and I shoot mainly my boys sports teams, I opted for a more economical lens. I must say that for my needs and for the money difference, so far, this lens has not disapointed me yet. I have shot amazing football pictures and I am very happy with it's performance.

Good for ten days
Very pleased with the lens until the auto focus quit on the ninth day. motor drives it to full infinity. You don't get what you didn't pay for. You get a $160 lens for $159.95! The MACRO work just fine, Over about 250mm it gets fuzzy. I Sure can't use it hand held w/o hi iso and fast shutter. A good value lens that broke within return time limit. I would buy another one but maybe I will go for a Nikon with VR.

Excellent lens at any price, but this one happens to be inexpensive!!!
I bought this lens after hearing about the Sigma brand in Consumer Reports. When I bought my Canon SLR camera recently, I was really dissapointed that the macro and telefoto lenses each cost almost as much as I paid for the camera! Because I am a beginning photographer I really didn't want to invest too much money on extra lenses. However, I did decide to go ahead and purchase this lens since I figured it wasn't a huge investment compared to how much Canon brand lenses run. Boy am I glad I made this purchase! This lens takes absolutely gorgeous photographs. The lens itself also seems very sturdy and well made. The only drawback with this lens is the lack of image stabilization, but a tripod or other solid resting surface takes care of that easily. All in all, this product is definitely worth a try and I highly recommend it!

amazing
This lens is fantastic and very affordable for a telephoto. it takes very sharp photos and gets in really close with its macro mode. its build quality is excellent. it completely blows nikons 70-300mm non vr out of the water. especially since it has the added macro mode. its a fantastic lens. it is my favorite over my nikon 18-55mm and nikon 50mm f1.8 . the auto focus tends to hunt sometimes though. it can be a light hog but even then it still takes a great photo. if your out side mid morning to sorta late after noon its fantastic. if you plan to use this lens for weddings indoors make sure your camera can shoot well at higher iso's because it will eat light. i cant think of reason you should not have one as a regular consumer photographer. if your a pro you should look at faster lenses unless you want this as a back up or something. even if all your going to do is macro this a is great. oh i used this on my older nikon D100 body and performed fantastic

Great for the money!
Have used the lens several times now taking pictures of Cross Country raises. It is easy to use and works very well on my Sony Camera. The pictures are excellent also.

Nikon Cameras History

Nikon Corporation is one of the major companies of the Mitsubishi Group, a multinational corporation headquartered in Tokyo, Japan and specializing in optics and imaging.

Nippon Kogaku K.K., or Japanese Optical Society (afterwards became known as Nikon Corporation) was formed at July 25, 1917 as a result of merging of three firms: Tokyo Keiki Seisaku-sho's optical division, Iwaki Glass Seisaku-sho и Fujii Lens Seizo-sho. The new company was aimed at manufacturing high-quality optics for Imperial Japanese Navy. And up to 1945 it actually was their main goal that determined the company’s philosophy and traditions. The first president of Nippon Kogaku was Yoshihira Wada.

Apart from military equipment the company produced microscopes, telescopes and other measuring instruments for industry and science. From 1932 they started serial production of Nikkor lenses for photo cameras. It’s an interesting fact that all Canon cameras, launched between 1937 and 1947 were equipped with lenses produced by Nikon!

After the WW II Nippon Kogaku K.K. manufactured its own camera –a rangefinder Nikon 1 – and stopped manufacturing lenses for Canon. The new camera appeared already Nikon-branded.
