Customers Reviews 2010-03-16 Drop dead simple. This is NOT the best sounding microphone out there. For the video I record, however it is great. I shoot normal kid stuff, soccer and lacrosse games, band concerts, etc. It cuts down ambient noise and wind tremendously. It will let you hear things that you couldn't before (be careful of that fowl-mouthed parent in front of you) and the stereo separation is great. Who cares about the fact that the camera has a proprietary mount? Didn't anyone do their homework before buying the CAMERA? The installation is crazy easy, just screw it into the shoe and set the pattern that you want it to record, that's it. Prepare to be amazed at what your tiny, sub-$1000 camera can do now! | 2010-03-08 A great accessory if you need better audio!! I bought this for my camcorder and it works like a charm. Easy to use and you definitely can tell the difference in your audio. I do a lot of videos for internet sharing. If you use the shotgun setting at 10 feet away you would swear the person had on a wired mic. This mic is awesome! | 2010-01-16 pricey little bugger ! I bought this the week before christmas 09, and wow, how the price has risen. it costs at least US$50 more than when i bought it. scary.
To sum up it's best attributes:
- small size
- less wind noise with the wind sock on
- sound direction switchable
Minuses:
- cost
- cost
- cost !
Some pple say that you can attach quality mics for cheaper to the cam, but in reality, it's troublesome, and complicated, and most professional mics come with attachments which are not meant for small amateur cams. coupled with the fact that you really don't want to carry a mic with a dangling cord around. it's just really irritating.
As i mentioned above, it's really expensive at this point of time. i really don't know if i'd shell out an extra 50 bucks for this, even though i like it. | 2010-01-14 Don't leave home without it! All built in camcorder mics suck. It's a fact. If you want to put it in your pocket, it can't have a good mic. The Canon HF series is no different. I bought this with my Canon VIXIA HF200 HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 15x Optical Zoom. I worried that it would only improve the audio a little and would add so much bulk that I'd never carry it.
I WAS WRONG. Wow, the upgrade in audio is enormous. I've been able to shoot talking heads and interviews, both indoors and on the street. The wind sock is worth just leaving on. If I'm shooting without the DM-100, I know my footage will be picture only when it reaches the cutting room. This makes the audio manageable. I've been able to put it in Logic Studio Retail or Adobe Soundbooth CS4 and get something totally usable with minimal tinkering.
Spare yourself the pain of showing everyone the footage from your new HD camera, completely with terrible audio. DM-100, buy it, use it, love it. | 2009-11-17 DOES NOT WORK WITH HG10 Just wanted to say..this does not work with the HG10..i ordered it as a gift for someone with an hg10 and it did not work and will be promptly returning it..im sure it works fine..but that is an annoyance | |

Canon Cameras HistoryCanon Corporation is a world-known manufacturer of office equipment ranging from printers and fax machines to scanners and copying machines.
The amount of photographic equipment produced by Canon is rather moderate in comparison to their other products. But it is in demand around the world. Don’t forget that it is the photographic cameras that the company began its business with.
As early as in 1933 Goro Yoshida and his brother-in-law, Sabura, founded the Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory in Tokyo. Their goal was to create a Japanese camera and make it known throughout the world. To begin with, the young people bought up and examined most advanced German models of that day. The enterprise was sponsored by Takeshi Mitarai, best friend of Uchida, a prosperous doctor, who later became president of the company.

In the following year, 1934, Japan's first domestically-made 35mm focal-plane shutter camera “was born” and was named "Kwanon" - after the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. The trademark Canon was registered a year later.
The first consumer model Hansa Canon appeared in 1937 and the le... More About Canon Cameras |
