Customers Reviews 2009-11-05 Amaing Camera! I have had this camera for a long time and have loved it all the way through.here is my list of pros and cons:
Pros,
Small
Lightweight
great image quality and scenes
good quality zoom
has a viewfinder
takes sd cards
takes timelapse video(ultra fast forward)
Cons,
not the coolest looking camera
the screen is smaller than normal
weak flash(for faraway shots)
zoom during video can get grainy.
My conclusion.
In the end i find this camera doing everything in a point and shoot.
| 2009-11-02 Super camera! Takes great pictures, is easy to use and haven't had any problems with it.
[...] | 2009-10-23 Excellent little camera I Love this camera! I purchased the Canon sd1100is digital camera a year ago; unfortunately it was stolen recently. So, when it came down to what camera to buy, I knew it was going to be a Canon camera but, I purchased the newest version of the camera - Canon sd1200is. I was not happy with the new version. The picture quality was NOT the same. I eventually returned the sd1200IS camera & purchased the sd1100IS model. I am now totally happy with my decision to repurchase the sd1100IS model. "Newer doesn't' always equal better. " I plan to have this camera a long time.
| 2009-10-20 Camera I purchased this camera for my daughter. It came with the photo printer. She loves the camera and it takes really great shots. She hasn't ever used the printer though. | 2009-10-19 Can add functionality thru firmware extensions Purchased this as a present for a family member. It is a great camera, light enough to carry around, takes wonderful photos, and built in time-lapse, video, and sound recording.
But a special feature worth knowing about is that firmware extensions can be installed on the memory card (not the camera itself) and then the camera can have more functionality. (This may be true of more recent successor models). Now I want my own!
The product CHDK (third party I think) apparently adds various functions to the feature-set of this camera. Note, according to what I am told, since it is on the memory card, it does not affect the firmware in the camera itself. Here is some of the expanded capability:
- take photo if motion detected, e.g. at a bird feeder (uses the focus mechanism as motion detector)
- HDR function, will take a number of bracketed exposures for combining into a single well-exposed photo.
- time lapse photo cycle has been increased
I don't know what else CHDK helps with, but this gives you an idea of the wonderful things you can do with this camera (and probably others in this product line). This has greatly expanded the usability of this camera and some really great HDR photos have been produced. | |

Canon Cameras HistoryCanon Corporation is a world-known manufacturer of office equipment ranging from printers and fax machines to scanners and copying machines.
The amount of photographic equipment produced by Canon is rather moderate in comparison to their other products. But it is in demand around the world. Don’t forget that it is the photographic cameras that the company began its business with.
As early as in 1933 Goro Yoshida and his brother-in-law, Sabura, founded the Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory in Tokyo. Their goal was to create a Japanese camera and make it known throughout the world. To begin with, the young people bought up and examined most advanced German models of that day. The enterprise was sponsored by Takeshi Mitarai, best friend of Uchida, a prosperous doctor, who later became president of the company.

In the following year, 1934, Japan's first domestically-made 35mm focal-plane shutter camera “was born” and was named "Kwanon" - after the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. The trademark Canon was registered a year later.
The first consumer model Hansa Canon appeared in 1937 and the le... More About Canon Cameras |
