Product Description With both a 32mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens and a 5x zoom, this is one camera that does it all. Simply set the Lz8 to iA mode and let the camera do the rest. Intelligent Scene Selector chooses the mode that best fits the situation; MEGA Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) helps prevent blurring from hand-shake; Intelligent ISO Control helps prevent motion blur; and Face Detection helps produce clear portraits by optimizing the focus and exposure settings. The brightness and contrast of the large 2.5" diagonal LCD adjust automatically in 10 steps as ambient light conditions change, so images are clear, bright and easy to see day or night, indoors or outdoors. f=5.2-26mm (35mm Equiv. - 32-160mm) Focal Length 2.5 Diagonal Polycrystalline TFT LCD Display (230K dots) Focusing Area Normal - Wide 50cm/ Tele 100cm - infinity, Macro / Intelligent AUTO - Wide 5cm / Tele 100cm - infinity 8 - 1/2,000 sec. Customers Reviews 2009-01-06 Great camera at a great price. I got this camera for $99 which is a steal. It takes great pictures and it's loaded with features. The bonus is that it can be completely manually controlled which is incredible for this price point. It practially impossible to find a pocket sized digital camera with full manual features. I was going to get another digital elph after the ccd on my old Canon went out but then I saw this camera on Amazon and decided to give it a try. I can't really find any flaws with this camera so far. | 2009-01-06 My new camera I like it alot. Very cool look...althought digital has a vintage feel to it. Nice big screen in the back. Easy to figure out without reading instructions. It has it's limitations like any device but, over-all a worthwhile purchase.
| 2009-01-06 VERY slow I purchased this camera after reading reviews that said it's image quality was among the best of budget digital cameras. After using the camera for several months, I would be willing to sacrifice some image quality for speed. This camera is insufferably slow. The moment I was hoping to capture is usually passed by the time the camera focuses on it's subject to the time the camera has snapped the picture. And if you're using flash forget about it. After taking a picture with the flash, it will be 10 seconds before you are able to fire off a second shot.
Do not buy this camera unless you are only using it for landscape shots or pictures where the subject will be sitting perfectly still for long periods of time. | 2008-12-28 Good Value, Slow Camera I bought the LZ8K as a little spare cam to toss in my motorcycle's saddlebags when I'm off on a ride. On the plus side, it's small, easy to operate, the lens is very sharp, and battery life (I'm using rechargeable AA Lithium batteries) is quite good. Offsetting these plusses, is the very slow trigger-to-shot reactions in poor light or indoors. Recycling of the flash system is also quite slow. I never seem to know exactly when the camera will actually take the picture -- resulting in numerous wasted efforts. Recently, I've set it to bracket with three exposures each time I take a pic -- hoping that one of them will suffice. This is a very good camera for still life or nature photography -- macro shots are fantastic. This is the wrong camera for action photography. | 2008-12-27 A deal, and A-MAZING! When I first started looking for a digital camera, i was looking for only a few things. Resolution over 5 mp, charging dock, SD and SDHC compatible, and not a sony. After doing a little reasoning, I found that charging docks aren't all that practical. If I'm out hiking, or trail riding, and i want to take a picture, I want to be able to pop in batteries if I ever happen to find anything especially amazing. I started out looking at a few fuji's, while, they did have better options and higher resolution, the cameras themselves, for the most part, were bigger and oddly shaped, and in my opinion, a little over priced. I started using the little Lumix in a local store, and found it had a lot of the options that made the higher end models easier to use. After the purchase, and taking it home and doing some more tinkering around with it, I was finding out just how amazing this little gem really was. It was taking pictures and showing things I'd never noticed before. I came to find out my pores needed cleansing, which is kind of gross, but the quality of the pictures were outstanding! I've never been more impressed with a digital camera, even after all of my searching. If you can scoop up one of these little gems for under 120 dollars, I'd definately say DO IT! | |

Panasonic Digital Cameras: Lumix DMC-LZ3 and LZ5Hello, people! Today I’d like to introduce you a comparison of two Panasonic digital cameras of LZ-series.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ3 is a 5 megapixel digital camera with a 2.0 inch LCD display. The LZ5 has a 6 CCD megapixel imager and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.
The both models feature a 6x Optical Zoom lens with a built-in MEGA O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer) and a High Sensitivity mode (ISO 1600), that make possible to take pictures of moving subjects and in low light situations.
The LZ3 and LZ5 spot the image stabilization system and the enhanced Sensitivity mode. These two features are essential for taking sharp and clear images in different situations.
MEGA O.I.S. is the image stabilization system that has two corrective modes. The system prevents graininess and blur caused by hand shaking. Besides, thanks to this feature, the cameras produce perfect shots even in dim light and at night and allow shooting at slow shutter speeds.
The new models have the improved ISO range, which records at up to 1600. The enhanced High Sensitivity mode reduces a handshake effect and improves images of moving subjects.
The DMC-LZ3 and LZ5 incorporates 6x optical zoom lens (equivalent to a 37 – 222 mm zoom on a 35 mm film camera), that can be extended up to 8.3x (7.5x for LZ3) in 3-Megapixel image. The Extra Optical Zoom function allows you to easily capture and magnify subjects in distant locations, as well as to take impressionable photos with soft-focused backgrounds.
The LZ3 and LZ5 models are also equipped with the Venus Engine Plus, that improves image processing in both speed and image quality. It saves energy consumption, making the battery more durable. (The DMC-LZ3 and LZ5 use 2 AA batteries).
The large 2 and 2.5 inch LCD screens are perfect for recording and composing shots as they allow the display of images even in tiny thumbnail size. Besides, the High Angle LCD function makes the cameras easy to view from bottom angle.
The LZ3 and LZ5 have 14 Scene Modes, that help you to get high quality pictures. Thanks to the Simple Mode, the cameras are very easy to use, as it makes most settings automatically. The Movie Mode with built-in microphone records in VGA size at 30 fps.
The cameras are supplied with 14 megabytes of internal memory, and there is a function that makes it possible to copy photos from the built-in memory to the SD Memory Card and vice versa.
The LZ3 is available in silver and the LZ5 – in silver and black. They measure 100 x 62 x 45 mm (3.94 x2.44 x 1.77 inch) and weigh 183g. (LZ3) and 186g (LZ5).
