Customers Reviews 2009-01-06 Instant success This camera was out of the box and taking video's of baby's first christmas within minutes - easily downloaded to PC for sharing and editing...a must have if you have growing kids! | 2008-12-22 Very poor video, poor sound; software and customer service sucks I bought the camcorder for our newborn. We did most of the shooting inside home. I was so disappointed with the video quality. Then I used my Canon SD1100IS digital still camera to take videos. That is so superior to the Panasonic videos.
The software never worked. I could never figure out how the various items in the software work. The manual or the website just does not give enough information on how to use the software.
I never found out the pixel dimension and other attributes of the three types of video qualities. I read every page of the manual.
I was so disappointed with the camcorder. After a month's use, I sold it in craigslist with a loss of over $100. Still, I am happy. I got rid of a such a nasty product and my still camera gives me better ... FAR better video than this crap. If it sounds weird, compare video and audio quality of SDR-H40 with Canon digital still camera. | 2008-12-20 SDR-H40 This is a better than average camcorder, tons of recording time, average battery life, spectacular optical zoom, and smaller than you could imagine. the only downside is the recording quality on the best XP isnt that great especially when you blow it up on a tv. I used it to go snowboarding and made a facebook video and it turned out pretty good, if your looking to archive family events to watch on a tv later, I suggest going with a higher quality SD camcorder or a HD camcorder. For the record, because I am using this for "extreme" sports I bought a SDHC Card so if it got bumped around while it was recording to the hard drive it wouldn't mess any internals up. I got a 16gb from amazon for about 40 bucks.Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Compact Card Reader All in all it was about what I expected it to be. | 2008-12-19 Great Camcorder! I purchased this camcorder for my father in late October. I went to Circuit City to check it out before I bought it. It's very small and doesn't have a lot of buttons...which is good for my dad (he's 50). It was also recommended by the guy at Circuit City. He convinced me to buy the 40gb as opposed to the 60gb because I could get a cheap 8gb memory stick and make this a 48gb camcorder...which allows for a ton of filming.
Make sure you put the OIS on before use. It was $400 at Circuit City but I got it on Amazon for $250. I haven't seen it drop back down since then. I bought one of the camcorder bags that was a suggestion as well...it fits nicely with the camcorder and is very well built. | 2008-12-16 Panasonic Video Camera The Panasonic SDR-H40 provides excelent video and comes with free software that allows fast uploads to my PC as well as very good editing capabilities. | |

Panasonic Digital Cameras: Lumix DMC-LZ3 and LZ5Hello, people! Today I’d like to introduce you a comparison of two Panasonic digital cameras of LZ-series.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ3 is a 5 megapixel digital camera with a 2.0 inch LCD display. The LZ5 has a 6 CCD megapixel imager and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.
The both models feature a 6x Optical Zoom lens with a built-in MEGA O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer) and a High Sensitivity mode (ISO 1600), that make possible to take pictures of moving subjects and in low light situations.
The LZ3 and LZ5 spot the image stabilization system and the enhanced Sensitivity mode. These two features are essential for taking sharp and clear images in different situations.
MEGA O.I.S. is the image stabilization system that has two corrective modes. The system prevents graininess and blur caused by hand shaking. Besides, thanks to this feature, the cameras produce perfect shots even in dim light and at night and allow shooting at slow shutter speeds.
The new models have the improved ISO range, which records at up to 1600. The enhanced High Sensitivity mode reduces a handshake effect and improves images of moving subjects.
The DMC-LZ3 and LZ5 incorporates 6x optical zoom lens (equivalent to a 37 – 222 mm zoom on a 35 mm film camera), that can be extended up to 8.3x (7.5x for LZ3) in 3-Megapixel image. The Extra Optical Zoom function allows you to easily capture and magnify subjects in distant locations, as well as to take impressionable photos with soft-focused backgrounds.
The LZ3 and LZ5 models are also equipped with the Venus Engine Plus, that improves image processing in both speed and image quality. It saves energy consumption, making the battery more durable. (The DMC-LZ3 and LZ5 use 2 AA batteries).
The large 2 and 2.5 inch LCD screens are perfect for recording and composing shots as they allow the display of images even in tiny thumbnail size. Besides, the High Angle LCD function makes the cameras easy to view from bottom angle.
The LZ3 and LZ5 have 14 Scene Modes, that help you to get high quality pictures. Thanks to the Simple Mode, the cameras are very easy to use, as it makes most settings automatically. The Movie Mode with built-in microphone records in VGA size at 30 fps.
The cameras are supplied with 14 megabytes of internal memory, and there is a function that makes it possible to copy photos from the built-in memory to the SD Memory Card and vice versa.
The LZ3 is available in silver and the LZ5 – in silver and black. They measure 100 x 62 x 45 mm (3.94 x2.44 x 1.77 inch) and weigh 183g. (LZ3) and 186g (LZ5).
