Customers Reviews 2010-03-10 Great camera bag! I purchased this product to be able to take my camera gear on vacation and on hikes. The quality is great. The only problem I have had is that one of the sipper pulls came off, and I need to find something sturdy to replace it. It is easy to access your camera (with a little practice). You can fit a ton of stuff in this bag. I currently have my 40D (with grip), 70-200L IS, 70-300 IS, 28-135 IS, 50mm 1.8, and my 430ex flash all in there. There is also plenty of room in the bonus top compartment for either camera related or non-camera related stuff. (I have even used the top portion as my purse and small diaper bag there is so much room in there! Great for shorter daytrips so you aren't carrying 2 or 3 different bags!!) The laptop are is nice. Since I do not have a laptop I can use this area for books and such. The waste strap that comes around offers great support for longer excursions. I would buy this bag again and again. Can't go wrong with it!! | 2010-03-09 A good sturdy camera bag I found the Lowepro Fastpack 250 to be a sturdy, well-made camera bag. Space is plenty and the presence of a laptop compartment exactly what the doctor ordered. I keep it packed all the time to the limit and use it extensively without any real complaints. One small negative relates to the absence of a sternum strap which, I think, is necessary for this size bag that may get on the heavy side when loaded down with all the essentials. Other than that, I have only praise for the Lowepro. I recommend this bag without reservation! | 2010-03-05 great bag, one flaw I love everything about my Fastpack but the "hip straps". I guess these are there to put weight on your hips and not carry the load on your sholders but...if you aren't using them they make the pack very uncomfortable. They've put a strange loop to try and wrangle in the belting but this is just as bad (now a wad of belting poking my back instead of the straps unsafely flapping around). Aside from this one thing I love the side entry/exit for my T1i with 28 - 200 72mm lense. All camera stuff in the bottom and personal belongings in the top and Dell Netbook in the sleeve. Wonderful as we moved accross Spain for three weeks! | 2010-02-28 Exactly what I was looking for!!! I was trying to find a bag that let me consolidate my computer (Dell Laptop), camera (Canon 7D w/Battery pack and several lens) and a few misc other things when traveling or going on site for smaller things. This bag hit the mark! Going through the airport is a breeze now that everything is easy to access and get in/out of ONE bag. This setup was exactly what I was hoping to find and it works great.
The only drawback I have found so far is that with the battery pack on the 7D the camera can't stand up vertically in the bag, it's a little too tall. So, I put on a short lens and lay it on it's back. It would be nice if there was an extra 1/2 height in the bag. Maybe someday I'll try the 350! But, this is a minor inconvenience as compared to carrying two bags around all the time (computer & camera#...
PS - since it's a LowePro, I didn't bother to talk about the quality and build, all the bags I've purchased over the last 10 years #4-5 of them) were LowePro's and all were top notch... | 2010-02-28 Another Lowepro gem The Lowepro Fastpack 250 is an excellent option if you are looking for a photo backpack. As you expect with Lowepro, the quality is top-notch. The zippers, seams, and materials are all high quality and sturdy. The capacity of the bag is also quite good, although don't be fooled by the description on the Amazon site-- the photo shown in the write-up is of the Fastpack 350, not the 250. As such, there is not room for 2 additional lenses in the divided area in the middle of the pack. In the 250, these areas are quite narrow, about the width of my Canon 430EX II flash or 4-5 Cokin P filter cases. Still, I was able to pack quite a bit into this bag. In the main/lower compartment I was able to pack:
* Canon 30D body with 17-55mm f2.8 lens and hood
* Really Right Stuff BH-55 ball head
* Canon 500d close-up lens
* Canon 50mm f1.4 lens
* Canon 1.4x multiplier
* Canon 430EX II flash and case
* 4x5 ND Grad filter in case
* 77mm Singh-Ray Vari-ND Duo filter
* Set of 3 Kenko extension tubes
* 3 Pocket wizards
* Arctic Butterfly loupe
In the upper compartment I packed:
* Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS lens and hood in its case
* Tiffen 6-slot filter pouch with filters
* 2 spare camera batteries
* Arctic Butterfly
* Quick release tripod mount for lens
* 2 Honl speed straps
* Wireless remote camera trigger
* Spare lens end-cap
* Laptop power supply
In the bottom pocket I packed:
* 2 Cokin P filter cases
* Battery charger
I didn't pack anything in the upper outside pocket, but it has room for narrow items (such as a laptop power supply).
All of this (as well as my laptop) fits snugly in the pack, but I still could have fit additional small items in any of the compartments/pockets. An additional mid-range lens would fit if I wanted to attach my tripod ball head to my tripod rather than carrying it separately. As you can tell, the Fastpack 250 is quite roomy... BTW, I was also able to pack all of the above in the bag when I attached my 70-200mm f2.8 lens to my body and stored it in the lower compartment-- just had to move a few things to the top instead.
The laptop sleeve is very well padded and easily fits my 15.4" Mac Book. I haven't tried, but I could probably fit the power supply in the laptop sleeve as well.
I will echo a few of the complaints about this bag-- no all-weather cover, no additional D-rings, etc., that can be used to attach a tripod, no sternum strap... Also, I would have sacrificed some of the upper compartment to have 2 full (lens) sized divided areas in the bottom compartment instead of the half-sized ones there now.
I was able to carry my tripod by threading a leg through the straps that hold down the cover over the outside lower pocket. This basically allows the tripod to ride below the bag, and the straps hold it securely enough so that it doesn't bounce while I am walking. It may not be as good/convenient as dedicated tripod straps, but it works quite effectively for me.
The bag is quite comfortable to wear, although when packed full (20+ pounds), it does tire my shoulders after extended hikes. This is where a sternum strap would really help. The side-entry feature works well-- although only if you are wearing both shoulder straps. If you are someone who often uses just a single shoulder strap to carry your pack over your right shoulder, then the side entry feature isn't of much use as you still have to set the pack down to access it.
Overall, the Lowepro Fastpack 250 is an excellent case with just a couple minor flaws. I highly recommend it! | |
