This thing ROCKS!!!!
First I want to say that I only ordered this two days ago- it arrived today!!!!! I have read all of the reviews on this item and most people tend to like it. I have a Nikon D3000 and this grip fits and looks like it was made specifically for my camera- the finish matches perfectly. I have read reviews where some people were not happy with the vertical shutter release, however on the D3000, I have no problems- i can shoot as many pictures vertically without having to go into the menu. This grip gives my camera such a professional look and I am looking forward to the extended battery life. Though it doesnt come with a charger for the batteries they charge just fine in the charger that came with my camera. Taking off the battery door to attatch the battery grip was a piece of cake!! I will definately order from this seller again and I recommend this product to anyone with the Nikon D3000 as that is the camera I use.

love it
has more than doubled the battery life of my camera. kind of upset that the vertical shutter option is not functional on the D40x but it's tolerable. if you are a night photographer or using off-board flash this will really be beneficial to own.

grippp
only thing i dont like about this is you have to set the camera to remote release for you to use the vertical grip

other than that, this thing works well :D

i use it on my D60
fits like a charm and matches the finish on the camera

can be used with either 2 battery packs or 6 AA batteries
funny thing though.. it says 2400mah total . but mine came with 2x 2000mah opteka batteries :D

Great addition to my D40
I love this battery pack! I've had my Nikon D40 for nearly 2 years. Almost all of my photography friends are impressed with the quality the D40 produces. My clients love the results as well and I think that's the most important thing. One of the things that I disliked about the D40 though was when using on camera flash or a "hot shoe" flash, the battery life just wasn't what I needed. Since Nikon doesn't offer a battery pack for this camera, I was forced to shop for an aftermarket piece of equipment. Most of the aftermarket battery packs I've seen on other cameras all had the same issue and that is; the finish and fit wasn't up to par. So here's the story of how I acquired this battery pack. My mother didn't know what to get me for Christmas this year so I sent her my Amazon "Wish List". I had forgotten this was on the list. I had been looking at it for quite sometime but several things were keeping me from purchasing. The biggest issue keeping me from pulling out my credit card was the price. By that I mean, the price was so cheap I had a hard time believing it was of the quality I desired. When our family Christmas celebration took place a couple of weeks ago at my parents house and I opened this package my first thought was, "I wish she'd have chosen a lens for a gift instead" (I know it sounds horrible-but I'm giving my honest opinion here)

Since I had my D40 there with me that day (I have other more expensive cameras but this is the one I always grab-I love it's versatility) I immediately installed it on my camera.

I was in total shock. Not only was the fit and finish precisely what I wanted but it came with all the necessary supplies that were needed. The fit is as good as the Nikon battery pack on my D300 and you can't tell any difference in the finish, It's a perfect match!

If you are considering like I was purchasing this piece of equipment but are hesitant due to it's low price, don't worry about it.

I haven't used the vertical trigger yet that is supplied on the battery pack. I am to used to using the on camera trigger.

This pack is everything I had hoped for and I wish I had bought it a year sooner when I first looked at it.

Slightly confused on which one I was gifted and received.
So this was the grip I had in my wish list. It is also the grip I was told, by the person who purchased the gift, was the one that was ordered. My grip however looks nothing like the picture. It does however look just like the user images. It also looks just like this other grip Maximal Power NIK D40 Battery Grip for Nikon D40/D40X/D60/D5000/D3000. So what gives, I am going to have to check my box when I get home and see what this is marked as.

As for a review. The grip I have works well, but not great, the look is not great, there is a large seam where grip meets camera, that comes off the camera about a .25" in some places. I had no real problems using the vertical shutter, but it does feel clumsy. As other customers I needed more grip both vertically and horizontally on my d5000, and this grip does it, it just looks a little ugly. Just remember I do not have the grip pictured for the product, I have the grip in the user submitted pictures with this product.

Nikon Cameras History

Nikon Corporation is one of the major companies of the Mitsubishi Group, a multinational corporation headquartered in Tokyo, Japan and specializing in optics and imaging.

Nippon Kogaku K.K., or Japanese Optical Society (afterwards became known as Nikon Corporation) was formed at July 25, 1917 as a result of merging of three firms: Tokyo Keiki Seisaku-sho's optical division, Iwaki Glass Seisaku-sho ?? Fujii Lens Seizo-sho. The new company was aimed at manufacturing high-quality optics for Imperial Japanese Navy. And up to 1945 it actually was their main goal that determined the company’s philosophy and traditions. The first president of Nippon Kogaku was Yoshihira Wada.

Apart from military equipment the company produced microscopes, telescopes and other measuring instruments for industry and science. From 1932 they started serial production of Nikkor lenses for photo cameras. It’s an interesting fact that all Canon cameras, launched between 1937 and 1947 were equipped with lenses produced by Nikon!

After the WW II Nippon Kogaku K.K. manufactured its own camera –a rangefinder Nikon 1 – and stopped manufacturing lenses for Canon. The new camera appeared already Nikon-branded.
