Please read this before ordering.
I give this product 5 stars, great screen, accepts virtually any portable media and it works great.

For all of those with image problems and people that are looking to purchase this product:

Simply download the program GIMP from the link below this review and install it. You can then open the images you want to put on the frame and simply resize and or crop the photos to 800 x 480 by clicking Image - Scale Image. Simply save the changed image to a "frame" folder or something and then you will have the original and know which ones are on your frame. You can then copy them to your medium for the frame.

I did this from the start and have not had any problems. It's better to do it this way for any frame because the internal programs to resize the images are probably going to end up distorting them or doing it wrong. The reason is because when they are resized they have to do so by removing pixels which generally causes it to not look correctly or look lower quality or out of proportion. When using a capable image editing program it allows you to resize the picture how you want it to emphasize the parts of the photo you want. It also "resamples" the photo when it is resized to keep the quality of the image. Lastly this allows you to store many more photos, for example an 8 megapixel image will usually be around 5MB, after resizing them the photo will be less than 1MB. That's somewhere around 200 photos per 1GB of storage! With the cheap cost of an 8GB SD card you could store well over a thousand photos!

TWO IMPORTANT GLITCHES YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT
We gave this picture frame to my mother-in-law for christmas. It was beautiful, she could work it easily, and it would start the show upon startup by just pushing the start button (with an SD card in place). It also allows you to show the slides in order, which we really wanted, because we wanted her to see the pictures of her grandchildren in chronological order. HOWEVER, when we sent her a replacement SD card with new photos in January, the show just froze. Eventually, the frame stopped working at all. So we returned it and the company replaced it. The new frame had the SAME problem. The company had also told us to stay under 1G, but that was not the problem (since the photos totalled only 125 MEG, after shrinking). What I FINALLY figured out was this: First, you need to format your SD CARD using a FAT32 format (not just FAT, but FAT32). Then, you have to use numbers ONLY to label your photos. DO NOT USE ANY LETTERS. When you do this, everything works like a charm. You can definitely have pictures over 1 Megabyte (I have quite a few), so that is an erroneous comment made by one of the reviewers.

C'mon.... it ROCKS!
The other reviews will give you the specs and pros. I haven't experienced any of the (relatively) few cons associated with this brand or model*, and only want to add mention of that experience, and an assessment of other models and reviews.

Face it, you aren't going to print all those pictures you have. You don't have space for the frames, and you already have boxes of prints that will never get put into albums, and albums that you never look at anyway. There's a good chance you're recording precious memories that hardly get relived or shared. You're seriously considering a digital frame, or you wouldn't be reading my drivel.

"But," you're thinking, as I did, "Opteka? Who the heck is THAT?" Who cares? You could get a smaller frame from a mediocre brand that sounds familiar, and then later post a review complaining about it, along with the others that you'd have to ignore to make yourself think you're getting a good deal, heh. Or you could save a few bucks and get one of the 7 to 10" frames from a leading photo company (ahem) and then be one of the people who posts saying they returned it, LOL. Or you could recognize that this one's got great specs, solid reviews, and a decent price point. And, btw...

This product rocks. User-friendly, vibrant color, not too bright, great size, tons of input options... It's now our primary method of watching both pictures from today (we fill a memory stick on an outing, and then kick back and watch a side show when we get home) and the thousands of pictures we took but never watched (toss 350 pics @ ~350kb each at a time onto a memory stick or the internal memory).

It took some discount/rebate combinations to get a price we could afford - but having seen the product, it's worth full retail. That'd be out of our price range, but WOW - we love it! :)

[* Three reviewers complain about "freezing", which happens if and only if a picture is over 1MB, which means you're either serious enough about photography to be able to reduce the res on the ones you want to display in the frame, or perhaps not familiar enough with your camera to lower the res to something possibly more amenable to your uses of it. :) One reviewer complains that the pictures wouldn't play sequentially, something we haven't had trouble with: SETUP > SHUFFLE > OFF.]
