Customers Reviews 2009-10-09 Fun, but don't expect image quality of any kind! I was looking for a cheap, fun, add-on fisheye lens to play with. That's what I got. The above reviews tell you not to have any high expectations for image quality, and boy, where they right. The image quality is actually pretty horrible, but the lens is still decently fun.
I always feel a bit tense when I'm screwing this lens onto the base lens. I don't know if it's the threading or what, but it feels like you can really screw up your base lens if you're not 100% precise and parallel when you're screwing it on.
The lens cover falls off easily sometimes too, so watch out.
It's fun and cheap, but please do not expect pleasing image quality ! | 2009-08-11 BEYOND IMPRESSED! This lens adapter far exceeded my expectations. For the cost, it does much more than one might think. I am absolutely in love with it and cannot stop taking pictures! To make things clear, this product is simply an adapter, meaning you must screw it onto your preexisting lens.
Sure, the quality is not outstanding, but it definitely is above mediocre. Keep in mind most lenses cost at least $600, so that being said, this lens adapter is a steal. After looking at several fish eye lens adapters, I chose this one because it was a 0.25X, meaning the distortion was more noticeable and severe.
PROS:
price, distorted effect, easy to handle
CONS:
light leakage, shadow appears when using built-in flash
I received it in the mail much earlier than anticipated, which is a plus! I would definitely buy from Cameta Camera again.
Here's a taste of what this lens can do!: [...] | 2009-08-07 not an alternative to a real fisheye...but fun none the less. the lens that holds the top position on my wishlist is sigma's 10-20mm wide angle. it's coming up with the $470+ that is the hard part.
so in an effort to quench my thirst for wide angle shooting while not emptying the wallet, i opted for this .25x lens adapter. in hindsight, i probably should have kept that $70 in the sigma fund, but alas.
the item was ordered, paid for, and arrived on my doorstep before it was scheduled to, so i thank Cameta Camera for their quick process. i eagerly took the adapter (i refuse to call it a lens) out of its box, and selected the proper ring size to be used on my nikon 18-55 kit lens. it screwed on no problem, and seemed to have a secure fit. the adapter is heavy, and likely contains thick glass, and metal construction. overall feel seems very sturdy.
it's a fun little toy to use, but certainly no realy alternative to a quality wide angle or fisheye lens. i find that i RARELY dial in below 35mm, as i'm not a fan of the "looking thru a hotel door" look. keeping it around 35mm gives you about ~9mm focal length (~13mm equivalent for us crop sensor people).
one thing i did notice right off the bat, was that autofocus was a challenge as the adapter is rather heavy...it took some effort on the focus motor's part. manual focus is probably better so as not to kill the motor, but the focus ring on my lens is pretty easy to move, and at any angle other than horizonal the adapter's weight can move the focus. im sure this isnt true on all lenses, but it is on mine.
image quality leaves a bit to be desired, but again...for $70, you can't expect tack sharp pictures. the center focal point of the adapter is pretty good, but the fall-off is rather immediate, and by the outside edges of the image, blur takes over.
ive gotten some neat pics with this adapter on, but is not something i would rely on if i was looking for a high quality image. taking pics of people with it is fun, since you get that cool fisheye distortion, and fans of skate photography will probably have a good time with it.
just keep in mind that this is a lens adapter, and the optics are NOT what those of a quality lens would be. if you go into it knowing that it's a bit of a novelty, i'm sure you won't be too disappointed.
as for me, i can't wait to get my 10-20mm. | 2009-05-30 You Get What You Paid For This was a pretty cheap fisheye.. only 10% of what the Canon version costs. It does the fish-eye deal pretty well, except that there isn't much clarity. Thankfully, I like grungy looking photos, so if you don't mind some blur, then you'll do well with this fisheye. It also gives slight distortion, and if you process your image a certain way, it'll look like a Lomo fisheye shot. Pretty neat. :) | 2009-04-06 A Good Start A fisheye can lend itself to some really unique ways of looking at things. I was really excited to get one. So excited that I couldn't wait to save up for a $600 fisheye lens. I ordered this attachment with the understanding that it is a temporary thing until I can practically invest in a real fisheye lens.
I've been pleasantly surprised with it though. It is very easy to attach to my Nikon 52mm 18-55 lens. I tried attaching it to my 70-300mm lens but the fisheye effect decreases as the zoom increases--the fisheye effect is almost nothing at 100mm focal length, so this attachment will be just for my 18-55mm lens. At 18mm focal length, I can see nearly 180 degrees. Things at the edges are very distorted of course, but its fun to be able to see my feet when I point the camera straight ahead.
I ordered it specifically to photograph a theater production. I had mixed results. In the low light of the theater, I had a hard time getting a clear photo, so I had to turn my ISO up--which I don't like to do, as it makes for a slightly noisier photo. The effect is cool though and I could get some angles of the stage that I couldn't get with a normal lens, so in all, I was happy with the results.
The macro uses are very good though. I've only done some test shots, but I can't wait to try some more. | |

Canon Cameras HistoryCanon Corporation is a world-known manufacturer of office equipment ranging from printers and fax machines to scanners and copying machines.
The amount of photographic equipment produced by Canon is rather moderate in comparison to their other products. But it is in demand around the world. Don’t forget that it is the photographic cameras that the company began its business with.
As early as in 1933 Goro Yoshida and his brother-in-law, Sabura, founded the Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory in Tokyo. Their goal was to create a Japanese camera and make it known throughout the world. To begin with, the young people bought up and examined most advanced German models of that day. The enterprise was sponsored by Takeshi Mitarai, best friend of Uchida, a prosperous doctor, who later became president of the company.

In the following year, 1934, Japan's first domestically-made 35mm focal-plane shutter camera “was born” and was named "Kwanon" - after the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. The trademark Canon was registered a year later.
The first consumer model Hansa Canon appeared in 1937 and the le... More About Canon Cameras |
