For impressive video and still images, Panasonic PV-GS320 is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, but is not short on innovative features. This camcorder incorporates the same type of 3CCD imaging system used in Panasonic's celebrated professional camcorders. Individual CCDs are used to reproduce the red, green and blue colors that compose an image for vivid, true-to-life pictures with remarkable depth and presence. The PV-GS320 also features the sophisticated Leica Dicomar lens, which has become known for its ability to capture and finely render the most delicate nuances of light and shade. The PV-GS320 also offers 16:9 widescreen format recording (to fill the screens of new widescreen TV models) as well as standard 4:3. It has a 2.7" widescreen LCD on camera for easy viewing. It uses Optical Image Stabilization, that compensates for normal hand movement, to reduce blur and assure that still and video images are beautifully crisp and clear. High-resolution digital still images can be captured via the GS320's built-in digital still camera feature, which records to a stamp-sized SD or SDHC Memory Card. The PV-GS320 features high-speed USB 2.0 for high quality full-motion video transfer, in addition to standard audio and video connecting ports. Great Camcorder w/ Fantastic Image Quality - Recommended
The "Panasonic GS320" has proven to be a really solid camcorder for use in our small business (used for making instructional videos). We were looking for a second camera that could come close to the image quality of our primary high-end Canon GL2 MiniDV Digital Camcorder w/20x Optical Zoom. The GS320 exceeded our expectations in our studio, with the following observations:
Pros -
Outstanding image quality from the 3-CCD sensors
Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) works very well
Accurate auto White Balancing
Conveniently placed controls
Great battery life
Cons -
"Cold" Accessory Shoe
No built in light
No external microphone input jack
We have also started using this camera for our family events and have been very pleased with the results in "uncontrolled" environments outside our studio as well.
Highly recommended!

Does work with *Vista*

There are Vista versions of the packages software there. Also the included USB cable is all you need (so its actually better than using XP). I have tested this and the MotionDV software does allow you to send video to the Vista machine and save it.
I have only had the PV-GS320 for a few days but I happy with the purchase. It is one of the last of the affordable high quality camcorders available and bridges the gap between HD and normal MiniDV. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is the low-light quality. This is probably normal for most camcorders though and it does have a horseshoe mount to add a light which is a must. You will probably want a second battery too.

If you want good picture quality for a reasonable price
Choose this camera if you want quite good picture quality but don't care about extra features.
(I've owned this camera for six months and use it fairly regularly.)
The Leica lens and the 3 CCD's are normally in much more expensive cameras (often called "prosumer")
The picture quality really does look great -- the video picture is sharp and the colors wonderful (not so much on the still pictures, though). I am totally happy with the quality and, for me, that's the main thing.
It DOES have a few "extras" that I use:
1) The still camera. While not a good quality as my dedicated digital camera, it is adequate. It solves the problem of having to carry two cameras.
You can also take "web quality" frame grabs from footage as you review the tape. This is pretty useful if you are posting trip photos to a blog.
The photos conveniently go onto a card which can easily be removed and put in a card reader.
2) A/V out
You can hook this up to your TV and it works nicely. This is one of the few feature for which you don't have to remove the battery.
3) "Quick Movie Magic" software
This is very basic software to get the footage onto your hard drive. It works nicely and allows you to fairly easily divide the scenes up and the like. I then use the clips in the editor of my choice.
4) Manual focus
5) Back light
6) Find end of tape, search
(All these items are easy to find and turn off/on)
Honestly, that's about all the extra features that I use.
FEATURES MISSING:
I don't care about bells and whistles and I like basic "do the job" equipment.
However, I miss:
1) Plug for an external mic.
2) Plug for headphones
3) A proper shoulder strap
4) White balance

Awesome camera; but no AV Input
I bought this camera for two purposes: 1) to replace an older VHS camera and 2) to use for converting my VHS tapes to DVD's. I give it 4-1/2 stars for #1 and 0 stars for #2. (In my research before buying the camera, I managed to miss the fact that the GS320 does not have AV input, so can't be used to convert analog to digital. Rats!)
However, for everything else I wanted, I was very satisfied. Other reviewers have pretty well expounded on the pros and cons. I'll just say that the quality of pictures (both video and still) that we get with this camera is really great. When I first got the camera, I handed it our son who is studying Film Production and works with professional camcorders. After fiddling with the controls and looking over its features, he expressed great delight with my purchase. (Yesss!)
It took me a while to figure out the menus and I haven't enough experience to handle the manual control options well, but overall, I would highly recommend this camera.

great camera
Great camcorder, watch for the color settings, It would help to point it at something neutral, like a hand befoe using it in extreme sunlight. Excellent product for the price!

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ3 is a 5 megapixel digital camera with a 2.0 inch LCD display. The LZ5 has a 6 CCD megapixel imager and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.
The both models feature a 6x Optical Zoom lens with a built-in MEGA O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer) and a High Sensitivity mode (ISO 1600), that make possible to take pictures of moving subjects and in low light situations.
The LZ3 and LZ5 spot the image stabilization system and the enhanced Sensitivity mode. These two features are essential for taking sharp and clear images in different situations.
MEGA O.I.S. is the image stabilization system that has two corrective modes. The system prevents graininess and blur caused by hand shaking. Besides, thanks to this feature, the cameras produce perfect shots even in dim light and at night and allow shooting at slow shutter speeds.
The new models have the improved ISO range, which records at up to 1600. The enhanced High Sensitivity mode reduces a handshake effect and improves images of moving subjects.
The DMC-LZ3 and LZ5 incorporates 6x optical zoom lens (equivalent to a 37 – 222 mm zoom on a 35 mm film camera), that can be extended up to 8.3x (7.5x for LZ3) in 3-Megapixel image. The Extra Optical Zoom function allows you to easily capture and magnify subjects in distant locations, as well as to take impressionable photos with soft-focused backgrounds.
The LZ3 and LZ5 models are also equipped with the Venus Engine Plus, that improves image processing in both speed and image quality. It saves energy consumption, making the battery more durable. (The DMC-LZ3 and LZ5 use 2 AA batteries).
The large 2 and 2.5 inch LCD screens are perfect for recording and composing shots as they allow the display of images even in tiny thumbnail size. Besides, the High Angle LCD function makes the cameras easy to view from bottom angle.
The LZ3 and LZ5 have 14 Scene Modes, that help you to get high quality pictures. Thanks to the Simple Mode, the cameras are very easy to use, as it makes most settings automatically. The Movie Mode with built-in microphone records in VGA size at 30 fps.
The cameras are supplied with 14 megabytes of internal memory, and there is a function that makes it possible to copy photos from the built-in memory to the SD Memory Card and vice versa.
The LZ3 is available in silver and the LZ5 – in silver and black. They measure 100 x 62 x 45 mm (3.94 x2.44 x 1.77 inch) and weigh 183g. (LZ3) and 186g (LZ5).
