Great Binoculars for field work!
I bought these binoculars for my research and field work and couldn't be happier! Most of the places I go are through thicket, scrub and dense vegetation and didn't want to spend a ton of money on binoculars that were bound to get dirty and banged around, as well as something that was lightweight. These are perfect for the range and distances I use them for to identify birds. They let a lot of light in so they work well for closeup viewing as well as birds that are soaring or flying overhead too. I chose these binoculars because I had borrowed a pair for a raptor migration assignment and in my opinion, performed better than any of the 1,000.00 and up binoculars that the other crew members had!
I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend them to anyone wanting a good, sturdy and relatively inexpensive pair of binoculars for virtually any type of birding. Eagle Optics stands behind their products and they come with a lifetime guarantee.

Great Binos for Anyone
I work with birds and frequently go birding so I've tried out 6 or 7 different pairs of binoculars. These are the first ones I've bought for myself. I couldn't afford to spend $1500 on super binoculars and did a lot of research before purchasing these. I like that even though this pair is quite affordable, it has qualities of binoculars that are much more expensive: like nitrogen-purged fogproof lenses and being completely waterproof. They also have a close focus range of 5.2 ft. The other binos. in this price range mostly have a close focus of 13 ft. or farther. I have a smaller frame and find many binoculars to be bulky or akward to hold. I haven't had this problem and people larger than me don't find the grip too small either. I also like that the binoculars come with a carrying case, rainguard, obljective lens covers, and a padded neck strap. Additionally, the Ranger SRTs come with an amazing Eagle Optics Platinum Protection Warranty which is a transferable no-charge unconditional lifetime repair warranty so if anything ever happens to your binoculars they'll repair or replace them for free. I was debating between the 8x42 and 10x42 optics. I went with the 8x42s b/c I have trouble finding a bird with the binoculars after spotting them with my eyes. I found the 10x42s to have to much magnification that it took way to long for me to find and focus on a bird with 10x magnification. 8x magnification is more than enough. You can clearly see and indentify a tiny finch with the 8x42s.

Terrific Value and good overall
Are these binoculars as good as a Swarovski, Leica or Zeiss? No. But then they are less than 1/4 to 1/5th the price of the top-of-the-line models. Are they good enough for the average birder? Absolutely.
Image sharpness and brightness are more than acceptable. At least 90% of the field of view is crisp. Color seems quite accurate and saturated. There's the tiniest bit of pin-cushioning and I notice a little bit of fringing in very bright light. Neither is enough distract me or make things harder to see. I didn't really see the pincushioning until a very good birder mentioned it and I soon stopped noticing anyway. Sure you could pay over a $1000 more and get 99.9% optical perfection, but I had to seriously consider if that gain in quality was worth the price. It's not now. Maybe when I retire and can spend lots more time in the field it might be, though I tend to get really attached to good tools, which these are. Anyway, these binoculars will not hold me back in the mean time.
They feel really nice in my hands. They focus quickly and accurately with one hand. Weight and size are about average for newer roof prism binoculars. The rubbery grip feels good, and they are nicely balanced.
And at this price I don't worry about them as much as I would a more expensive pair, though that doesn't seem to be an issue. I've dropped them when my hands were too cold to hold on. I've had them sit in saltwater on the bottom of a kayak. I rinsed them off in a restroom sink to remove the salt film and they just shrugged that treatment off. They come with a lifetime guarantee, anyway.
In absolute optical quality these rate at least 4 out of 5. Build quality, fit and finish are excellent. They seem military grade rugged. In terms of value they really can't be beat. I looked through a lot of binoculars before buying these. The comparably priced Nikon Monarchs, long the standard of budget conscious but quality seeking birders are neither as bright nor as sharp. And I saw nothing that noticeably beat the Ranger SRT's optics for twice the price and nothing at any price that seemed better mechanically.

Very competent basic birding binocs
Not top-of-the-line, but in the birding world top-of-the-line starts at around $1,500 U.S. However, if you are looking for well constructed glasses that you can take anywhere into the field I would get these.
Great especially for beginning birders and wildlife observers on a tight budget. I also have a pair of Leupold WindRiver Pinnacles, and another pair of Leupold Olympics and although they cost more, especially the Pinnacles, they are not quite as sharp as the Ranger SRTs. Construction-wise the SRT is made like a tank, and you won't worry about dings and dust.
I actually bought a pair of SRT's for my son to use in his college field work, and regrettably did a simple focus and sharpness comparison (the business card taped to a distant wall test) to my Leupold's. Fortunately, I got the Leupold's at an aggressive sale price so it didn't hurt as much, but if you paid list, you could spend twice as much and not get as good as the SRT.
