New lamp blew up - nobody to contact for guarantee!
I am very frustrated - I bought this lamp through Amazon as a backup for my original Mitsubishi projector lamp back in January 2009, as I expected the original lamp to require change soon thereafter. Surprisingly, the original lamp kept going perfectly but around May or June of this year I still decided to change the lamp for this new one that I bought a few months back. By the way, when I placed the order, I was certain I was buying an original Mitsubishi product because nowhere did it say the lamp was manufactured by another company (Polaroid).
Less than 2 months and 100 hours into this new lamp, my projector shut down completely. I called a technician (same technician that had replaced the lamp professionally) to look at it, and the problem was that the new lamp had exploded inside the projector. Technician had to remove the lamp, clean the inside for glass powder, and to see if the projector was not damaged, he actually inserted the old lamp again and luckily the projector started working again.
Does it make sense to spend over $300 on a new lamp for it to burn out and explode in less than 100 hours? I don't think so. Problem is Amazon provides no support after 30 days of purchase, but they don't try to contact or intervene directly with the manufacturer either, which I think is wrong.
I was given some contact numbers for Polaroid, but I am calling and calling, and nobody answers. Maybe the company went belly up.
I hope I can get Polaroid to send a replacement (in case it was a defect in fabrication), and hopefully the replacement, if I get it, won't damage my projector, which cost a few grand.

Purchase at Your Own Risk
Some lamps are hit or miss. For me, this one was a miss. The lamp burned out after 167 hours. My projector is mounted in a cool and dry location and the original manufacture lamp lasted 3000+ hours. Keep in mind this lamp is manufactured by Polaroid and not Mitsubishi.

Reliable lamp replacement
Arrived as scheduled, easy to install, looks slightly different cosmetically from factory-installed Mitsubishi lamp, but fits fine, powered right up without issue. Definitely recommended.
