Customers Reviews 2009-01-08 The Philips Mant950 does not work I purchased the Philips Mant950 several months ago, in anticipation of installing an HDTV converter box. I finally purchased the converter box and installed the Philips Mant950. The antenna did not work at all - I could not pick up a single station. I tried my 15 year old Radio Shack rabbit ears with the converter box and I had access to more stations than ever.
Unfortunately, I cannot return the Philips Mant950 to Amazon because it is more than 30 days since I received it. Therefore I will discard it.
I learned two lessons:
* Don't purchase Philips electronics.
* Try out anything you get from Amazon before you miss the deadline to return it. | 2008-12-27 Way too directional: Not good for suburbs The basics:
~Located in a suburban area
~5 to 8 miles from multiple broadcast towers
~Towers located to the SE and SW
~Antenna mounted on a rooftop mast
~Several large brick buildings and many mature trees nearby
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I put up with this antenna for about 6 months before I finally replaced it with an Aspen Air Dtv2Buhf. This Phillips (which costs nearly 3 times as much) is EXTREMELY directional and since I live 5-8 miles away from 3 different broadcast towers, I never could get a good signal on the various channels.
In frustration, I bought the Eagle Aspen. I put that up on my rooftop mast, pointed it in the general direction of the different towers and came down to check the signal strength. I had "maxed out" HDTV signal on nearly ever one of the 2 dozen channels! I didn't have to screw around with rotating the antenna's direction and there was no signal amplifier/pad switches to mess with.
If you're 20+ miles from the broadcast towers, this Phillips antenna might work well for you. But if you're less than 10, I wouldn't even consider it.
| 2008-10-14 Alright, but better alternatives exist... I tested this Phillips antenna in a couple different areas in and around the house. It brings in some channels fantastically, but misses others completely.
Make sure to try this indoor antenna first: Philips High Performance Amplified Indoor Uhf/Vhf/Fm/HDTV Antenna. Nothing else even compares so far and it is much easier to setup. | 2008-09-16 Worthless I bought this antenna, believing my troubles were over, based on the majority of the reviews. Boy was I in for a suprise! It brings in ONE station just a little better than before, another station, the sound is better. Overall, I get 8 stations, the same as with my broken rabbit ears. Plus the fact that you must have the antenna lined up perfectly for any clarity. | 2008-09-06 Buy this if you're happy with only having 1-2 channels After reading the reviewings on Amazon, I decided to buy this to get some HDTV channels. I checked antennaweb to determine the location of the transmission towers and installed the antenna outdoor toward my favorite channels. Those channels are only 26-32 miles from my location so I was expecting to get a good reception...but was I wrong! Before installing this antenna, I used an indoor RCA HDTV antenna I got from Walmart. I was getting 11 HDTV channels with the RCA antenna. After installing this, I got 1 HD channel and 1 other channel off and on and nothing else. I tried moving the antenna in all directions and got nothing...nada. So, that antenna is either defective or simply useless. I ended up returning it to Amazon and continue using the RCA antenna. Don't buy this if you want to get good signals! | |
